640x480 resolution lock on a new PC
SolvedKioroDjirane -
I just received a brand new PC and the resolution is stuck at 640x480. The option is grayed out in the Windows settings. I tried looking in the AMD options (graphics card) but there’s nothing to change the resolution except for "custom resolution" which requires accepting something but that’s impossible due to the resolution issue. I checked the drivers and everything is in order.
The only thing I may have done wrong is that when I set it up, I had plugged my monitor into the motherboard instead of the graphics card. I changed that since and restarted but it didn’t solve the issue. I doubt that’s the problem but I mention it just in case.
Thank you for your responses.

Okay. I found the solution. The problem was that I was using a TV screen as a monitor. I'm copying/pasting this in case it happens to someone:
"My external 1080p monitor/TV is stuck on a resolution of 640x480 in Windows
If you're using an HDMI extension card and are connected to an external 1080p monitor or TV, you may encounter an issue in Windows where it is detected as a generic flat LCD screen, which by default has a maximum resolution of 640x480. To resolve this issue, you need to unplug the power cable from the monitor or TV from the outlet/surge protector, and then plug it back in. This will force Windows to use the generic 1080p driver, which will increase the resolution to 1920x1080. Simply turning the monitor/TV off and on again will not fix the problem."
And it worked perfectly. Finally relieved!
640*480 is a default resolution; (re)install the drivers for your graphics card, it is very likely the cause.
It is also possible that Windows has chosen the wrong graphics card and has set the display to mirror.
I mainly work with VB6, VB.NET, and C#, but moderation often brings me to other languages.
In VB.NET, be sure to enable "Option Explicit" and "Option Strict".
