Mouse and Keyboard Driver

Solved

Hello, for the past few days, my touchpad and FN key on the keyboard have not been working.
In the device manager, I have interfaces in the keyboard and mouse sections.
I tried multiple updates for these two devices (even downloading the drivers from the ASUS website), with no result.
I uninstalled them and restarted the PC, with no result, the same with system restore.
Any ideas? Thank you all.

... well, after trying the above procedures again, older versions of the ATK package, etc. etc. (without any positive results), I set up SharpKeys, which is a nice little software that's very user-friendly for assigning functions to keys. The only small downside is that the screen brightness keys are not supported, but oh well... not a big deal.

Thank you for the feedback, it's good to know about this software. For the brightness adjustment, even if it's not accessible by a button, is it adjustable in "Settings," "System," "Display"?

... I won't hide from you that I don't understand anything at all about "OEM HMI Pairing" LOL.

The following conditions must be met to properly display the HID pairing screens during OOBE: The PC must have Bluetooth functionality, and Bluetooth must be enabled. The Bluetooth radio must be certified for Windows 10. To display the keyboard pairing page, you must ensure that no wired keyboard is connected to the PC. To display the mouse pairing page, you must ensure that no wired mouse is connected to the PC. Oobe.xml settings for the <hidsetup> section must be provided for the corresponding pairing pages.

Are you using a wireless mouse (with its USB receiver)?

Hello @Panth33ra StatutMembre

This cannot help an individual. @jimkiller StatutMembre is not familiar with these elements and should still be able to finish the setup after installing Windows, which is precisely where the problem lies.

"The following conditions must be met to properly display HID pairing screens during OOBE" where "OOBE" means "Out Of The Box Experience", "which occurs on first boot"

This link is for OEMs to address a specific case, that of the bundled sale of a PC and its peripherals. In this case, knowing the hardware, it is possible to pair them with Windows before installation by hardcoding their settings in an oobe.xml file, but there is no question of drivers --'

Hello,

  1. Check if the touchpad is enabled: Settings, Devices, Touchpad, there's a toggle.
  2. Do a BIOS reset, there is sometimes a toggle for the FN key and it might not be labeled exactly like that.
  3. Let's go over the drivers again:

Try to see if at least one of the "function" actions works either with or without FN. This will narrow down the possible causes.

Keep me posted!

... @luckydu43, touchpad okay, thanks. Indeed, the "enable or disable" box was unchecked, I don't know why I didn't touch it.

As for the FN key, I will try the procedure you described and keep you updated. Thank you.

It is possible that one of the FN shortcuts disables the keypad. In which case, it indicates that the function keys are reversed, where pressing FN+key triggers the normal action and pressing the key triggers the function.

This reversal is usually fixed in the BIOS, and by default, it may be set that way (I have this case on an HP, but I don't know about Asus).

In that case, you need to go into the BIOS and look for that famous "toggle for the FN key that is not written exactly like that."

@luckydu43, downloading and installing the items you designated: Chipset INF update OK, Intel serial IO controller OK, Intel MEI package older than the currently installed one, Touchpad nothing happens, ATK package OK, ... but still no result from the association of the FN key and others (for example FN+F11 F12 to increase and decrease the sound etc etc ..). In the BIOS, I have no function to enable or disable the "toggle" FN.

TouchPad is fine, it's working again.

The ATK Package is responsible for managing the "FN key and others association."

Go BIOS

"Intel MEI package older than the one currently installed" okay, I did take the most recent one from the website, there must have been a Win Update. It was in 2018, that's true.

Have you found the parameter? Normally, it's "Action Keys Mode" set to "Disabled" in the "System Configuration" section.

  • Enabled: Does not require pressing Fn to use the actions printed on the function keys.

For example, pressing f8 lowers the sound as printed on the key. Alternatively, pressing both the Fn + F8 minimizes and maximizes a web browser.

  • Disabled: Requires pressing Fn to use the actions printed on the function keys.

For example, pressing F1 opens a help window. Alternatively, pressing both the Fn + F1 keys puts the computer to sleep as printed on the key.

Okay, the F1, F2, F3 keys performing F1, F2, F3 inputs is normal; it comes from the keyboard.

The association of F1 with the "mute" function, F2 with "volume up," for example, comes from software associated with the PC, even if it's printed on the key. It's these functions that interest me. I want to know if, by pressing F2 or FN+F2, it indeed triggers "volume up" (an example).

From what I understand, F2 without FN triggers the F2 input and not the function, while F2 with FN does nothing or still triggers the F2 input.

ATKPackage hasn't changed anything, very good. We're going to spend some time on this.

GeekUninstaller is a good base, yes, I have it everywhere :-)

I can't find the service on my W10 either; it was supposed to concern Seven.

Other suggestions proposed by Asus :

  • there might be a switching of function/hotkey keys
  • Install ASUS Keyboard Hotkeys from the Microsoft Store

luckydu43, ... "From what I understand, F2 without FN activates the F2 input and not the function, F2 with FN does nothing or even activates the F2 input again," exactly.

I downloaded and installed ASUS keyboard Hotkeys, but when I launch it, I do not get the same result as found on the internet.

Sorry, I intended to reply but then I got busy, and then the PC shut down with the conversation appearing as read.

I just tested ASUS Keyboard Hotkeys on my Dell, expecting an error message. I got the same message as you, which seems to indicate that your ATK Package is incorrectly installed; otherwise, this application should allow you to reverse the activation direction of the additional functions.

Start over with everything that has been suggested, try with previous versions, check forums to see if this issue is known for your model, and regularly update your progress here: other helpers and I will automatically see the updated topic and, if our time allows, we can try to provide additional input.

Don't lose hope \o/
