Micro-SD card not recognized in XIAOMI smartphone

Hello,
I have been using a new micro SD card in my Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro for the past 3 months.
Until yesterday, it was being detected properly and I even transferred videos and images onto it.
However, since today, the card is no longer visible in the file manager and my phone is asking me to format it.
What is happening? Should I remove it from the case and reinsert it while restarting the smartphone?

Hello
It doesn't smell good, yes. It's better to take it out, dump it on the computer, reinsert it into the phone, and format it from the phone.
If the problem persists after that, we will investigate.
If you format it now without taking it out, you'll lose all its content.
The causes can be multiple, non-exhaustive list:
- Phone update requiring a new file format for external storage
- SD card failure
- SD card reader failure

There haven't been any updates on my smartphone for a while now.
I think I dropped my smartphone about a week ago, but not from very high.
If the SD card reader is dead, is it possible to get it repaired or is it better to replace the smartphone?
Already, I can't transfer files via USB cable! (smartphone is OTG after all).
The fall is a good likely cause.
For data transfer, it may be a setting to enable in the development options (I talk about it here)
As for transferring the current data from the SD card, really try to go through a computer; you will know for sure. As it stands, it is not readable by the phone so you won't be able to transfer anything.

I had already tried the second method in the developer options on my smartphone, but the phone was still not recognized on my PC running Windows 10 when connected via cable.
I will try the first method tonight.
