VCR: SCART to HDMI Converter (no image)

Hello,

My specific problem:

I bought this converter (Amazon link below) scart to hdmi to play my tapes on my flat screen (photos below). When I connect it and play the tape, I can hear the sound of the movie but there's no picture. The screen is blue and displays "no signal". However, when I put my VCR on pause (photos below), the VCR's interface appears but never the movie image. I should note that with a scart cable, both picture and sound are fine.

I’ve read several threads about my problem and I’ve done these manipulations (without solving the issue):

- changed HDMI port.

- disabled the easylink function.

- changed TV, tape, and format from 4:3 to 16:9 and vice versa.

- switched the converter from 720 to 1080p and vice versa.

Hello,

Your television reference:

40PFT4201/12

Number of SCART connectors (RGB/CVBS) 1

https://www.philips.fr/c-p/40PFT4201_12/4000-series-televiseur-led-ultra-plat-full-hd-avec-digital-crystal-clear/aper%C3%A7u

I want to point out that with a SCART cable the picture and sound are fine.

I might be saying something silly, but why would you want to use a converter on a television that has a SCART connector for a VCR that also has a SCART connector!

Knowing that VHS via HDMI won't really improve quality.

Thank you for your response.

I had already used converters for PS2 and Wii and I was satisfied with the result, so I wanted to try it for the VCR since the image is not great on a big screen.

Well, in the end, you made me think of another solution; I have another smaller TV with a SCART socket as well, and the display is fine with this TV.

Hello,

The SCART to HDMI converter works at 720p or 1080p

Check in the TV menu if there is a setting related to resolution or image format that could fix the issue.

In any case, do not expect good quality images.

Very difficult to catch a black cat in a dark room.
Especially when it's not there...

Thank you for your response, I tried changing the screen format to 4:3, but there was no result. In the manual, it mentions the resolutions supported by HDMI and SCART (see photo), but that's all I found in the manual and the TV settings.

So I’ve found an indirect solution with the small TV, but I’m always open to advice on improving the image quality from the VCR to the HD TV.

Using a converter will never improve an SD image; in fact, the opposite is most likely to happen.

I was thinking of acquiring a TV from that time (cathodic, I believe) to improve the image; is that a good idea?

The television you have (flat screen from 2016) with a SCART connector will give you the best possible image. It’s not by looking for a "fossil" television (CRT) that you will find a better image.

Moreover, knowing that VHS tapes deteriorate over time and that, little by little, the image quality they are likely to provide will degrade.

It's important to keep in mind that we are dealing with analog using a VCR.
