Set up my printer

Good evening! I just installed my new printer and I can't seem to configure it... it's an HP Envy Inspire 7200e.

I went to my settings, and to "add a device," and whenever I try to connect the printer, it keeps telling me to try again...

Thank you for your help.

Is it properly connected to the PC via its cable?

Hello bazfile! Yes! But it’s a cable that goes from the printer to an electrical outlet!

I was able to do everything (install the components, cartridges, paper...) but I'm "struggling" with the setup!

Thank you and have a nice day

The question is "the printer is properly connected to the PC via cable" and you respond "yes, to a power outlet"..
So no, your printer is not connected by USB cable

      Plug it in

      @rosounette StatusMember .

Your printer must be connected to the PC with this type of cable provided with your printer; it can also be connected via WiFi see the user manual, otherwise, it is certain that if your printer is not connected to the PC, it will not be found.

Thank you. But I only have this cable that goes from the printer to a power outlet, just like my old printer, by the way.

      @rosounette StatusMember.

All printers are delivered with this type of cable, it is also indicated in the description (1 USB 2.0 client), it can also be connected via WiFi see the manual.

        Hello

It's been a long time since printers no longer come with a USB cable.

        Hello,

Whether they are or not doesn't matter.

In the case of this particular printer, and if it indeed has a USB port, the HP documentation tells us that it can be used later on, but that the initial setup must necessarily be done via Wi-Fi and that the printer cannot operate if it is not "connected online," which is stupid.

        Hello Brucine,

The prior use of the Wi-Fi connection is indeed a new thing and unfortunately contradicts (in my opinion) what has been stated for years about our devices, namely, to establish or check the USB connection in case of a blockage, before worrying about restoring it via Wi-Fi.

Moreover, in many cases, updates (Windows Update) notably cause the loss of the scanning function, which uses a different module from printing.

It seems that we must therefore comply with this new directive for certain printers, if it is clearly stated in the installation instructions.

It's been a long time since printers no longer come with a USB cable.

That isn't the case for all printers, but if her printer comes without a cable, she can buy one for less than €4.

Okay. But I repeat, I only have this cable and I had the same one with my old HP printer, I don’t have a USB cable. So I will look to connect it via Wi-Fi. Thanks again.

      Hi

What kind of box do you have and which version of Windows?

You just need to use the WPS mode and your printer will be connected to the box and then automatically installed on your PC

On the printer, WPS is a long press on the WIFI button until the light flashes

On your box, it depends on the model

It's true that they no longer deliver USB cables with printers

      Hello,

Keep the printer connected to the Internet.
HP+ printers are cloud-connected devices and must remain connected to the Internet to function. The Internet connection allows the printer to provide HP+-specific application features and firmware updates.
During setup, you must connect the printer to the Internet via a supported network connection. After setup, you can print using a USB cable connection, if you wish. However, the printer must remain connected to the Internet.

Thanks to bazfile, MPMP10, Kaumune, for your help! I followed all the links you indicated, and I couldn't manage to connect... When I enter the Wi-Fi password, it keeps rejecting it, etc... In short, I'm giving up! I'll call HP on Monday!

Happy Music Day! And have a great weekend.

    Thanks again for your help!

      @rosounette StatusMember .

Here’s how to do it with a Livebox see this page.

Thanks to WPS mode, you don't have to enter the Wi-Fi password.

On Livebox devices, just briefly press the button named WPS (see here depending on your Livebox model), and then use the WPS mode on the printer.

Below is an excerpt from the printer manual page 18.

      It takes 2 minutes.

If she doesn't have a cable and can't connect via WiFi, as I mentioned earlier, for less than 4 euros, she can buy this type of cable.

Yes, but it would be a shame to spend money unnecessarily and to tie oneself down when she has wifi available.

You must especially adapt to people and their level of computer skills; the cable remains the most reliable means of connection, especially when one is not very comfortable with computers. Just look at the number of "printers and Wifi" problems on the forum to be convinced of this.

Personally, the cable remains and will always be my first choice; it is the choice of reliability, and this has nothing to do with the Stone Age.

Hello! As I said, buying a USB cable doesn't bother me! The only problem is that I don't have a port on my printer to connect such a cable! Thanks again

I'll check the "live box" manual! Have a good weekend

There is a USB port on this printer, see here:

All that is well and good, but as highlighted by MPMP10 in the copy of the official link in <20>, as I have pointed out elsewhere and as it appears in this new link, there is indeed a USB port, but it cannot be used for the initial configuration of the printer without a Wi-Fi connection.

        It's just HP nonsense

No need for the Internet for the printer to work over USB

      @rosounette StatusMember .

the only problem is that I have no output from my printer

There is one, it's indicated in the description I provided to you in my message #10.

The connector that connects to the printer is square.

      See the screenshots below.

Just press a button on the box (the one for WPS) and follow the instructions for the printer, for which I've provided you with a screenshot.

If that doesn't work, let us know where you're stuck.

It's not an exit, it's an entry

It's a shame that you don't answer the questions asked to help you nor follow the given instructions

Who set up your previous printer?

You should get local help for the new one and its Wifi connection

The cable is the (bad) "solution" of pseudo-ease

      Good luck

We understand very well that you prefer WiFi, but as I've already told you, we need to adapt to the computer skills of the people we are helping.

The cable is an excellent, reliable, and easy-to-implement solution; the main thing is that @rosounette StatusMember can use her printer. Afterwards, she can always ask a friend to set it up for her via WiFi. Since the printer/WiFi connection can sometimes pose quite a few problems, she will always have her cable as a backup in case of WiFi connection issues.

It's not about MY preferences but about making do with what we have and enriching our knowledge

The problem will arise every time she connects to a Wifi network, which is happening more and more today

And there she won't always have the support of a USB cable

It’s not her choice, she takes your statement about me for herself

The initial choice of the plaintiff is to operate like her old printer, that is to say, via Wifi

I’ll let you handle the rest, which will certainly be interesting as you will be dealing with HP Smart and its bugs (especially with USB), scanner issues etc ...etc ..

No utility is needed with recent HP printers as they come with WEB services that are easily accessible via the printer's local IP address

She won’t have that with USB

      Good luck with the rest

Hello bazfile! I don't prefer Wi-Fi! What matters to me is being able to use my printer! And as I mentioned earlier, I am going to get the USB cable! My computer skills are weak for things that are too complex for me! I'm not 20 anymore.... ;)

Thanks again and have a nice Sunday!

You do as you want, but it has nothing to do with a computer level

It's about reading and doing what you're told:

Press this button on the box (no difficulty)

Press this button on the printer etc etc etc (no difficulty)... nothing computer-related in there, no more complicated than using a microwave

Nothing difficult except the mountain some make out of it

      Good luck with USB
