Hello, here is my setup: 4 brand new Lenovo ThinkCentre PCs running Windows 11 v 23H2.

Kyocera Taskalfa 1800 printer connected via USB to a host PC and shared, everything works on this host PC.

However, it is impossible to add this printer on the 3 other client PCs connected to the network, error message "Windows connection to the printer failed. Check the printer name and try again..."

Does anyone have a solution? Thanks in advance.

Hello

First, check that all rights are granted for sharing resources,

Verify the sharing settings on the host PC:

    • Make sure printer sharing is enabled.
    • Open the settings on the host PC, go to "Control Panel" > "Hardware and Sound" > "Devices and Printers".
    • Right-click on the Kyocera Taskalfa 1800 printer and select "Printer Properties".
    • Go to the "Sharing" tab and check "Share this printer". Note the share name.
  1. Check the network settings on the host PC:

    • Open "Settings" > "Network and Internet" > "Status".
    • Click on "Network and Sharing Center".
    • Make sure the network profile is set to "Private".
    • Click on "Change advanced sharing settings".
    • Ensure that "Turn on file and printer sharing" is selected.
  2. Add the printer on the client PCs:

    • Open "Settings" > "Bluetooth & devices" > "Printers & scanners".
    • Click on "Add a printer or scanner".
    • Click on "The printer that I want isn’t listed".
    • Select "Select a shared printer by name" and enter the printer path in this format: \\HostPC-Name\ShareName. For example, if the host PC name is HostPC and the share name is Kyocera1800, enter \\HostPC\Kyocera1800.
  3. Make sure the client PCs can see the host PC:

    • Open File Explorer.
    • Type \\HostPC-Name in the address bar and press Enter.
    • If you cannot access the host PC, ensure that all PCs are on the same network and the same workgroup.

This covers all the steps to monitor, you may have already completed some of them; checking the rest will help resolve or identify any potential issues.
It's surprising that this type of printer only has USB 2 connectivity offered, with LAN as an optional feature only.

Hello madmyke,

thank you, and yes I'm sorry I've already gone through and checked all these network and sharing settings many times... it hasn't resolved the issue of adding it on the client PCs. Indeed, this printer does not have an RJ45 network port, only a USB port...

If all these steps are okay, then visibility and sharing are normal, then I only see one possibility, the printer or its driver.
It is old and there is no driver for W11, even though it works locally, W11 being quite different.
Either check directly with the manufacturer, or buy a LAN module, which would also allow you to connect it directly to the network without having to go through (and keep turned on) a host PC.

Indeed, there are no Win11 drivers on the Kyocera site, so I had installed the Win10 drivers. After searching a bit, I found a driver for Win11 on their site, but I can't manage to install it... maybe I'm doing something wrong... I removed the printer and tried to reinstall it with the new driver, but the Kyocera Client Tool software doesn't offer me this new driver....
