Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 update issue

Hello,

I'm encountering a problem with my Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 (one among many, this smartphone is a disaster)!

When I went to update it (which is strange, I already updated it just 10 days ago), I was asked to free up storage space. Well, I have a lot of photos and videos. I cleared the cache, deleted the data of each app, and uninstalled all the ones I don’t need to make as much space as possible. I also have a 250GB SD card, about half of my photos are in the internal storage and the other half on the SD card.

Just when I thought everything would be sorted and I could do my update, I see that I've barely freed up 3% of storage, which seems very little to me.

Even worse, a few minutes later, the storage suddenly shot back up to 100% even though I hadn't done anything! I keep deleting and deleting but nothing helps, it stays stuck at 100%.

And to transfer photos to my SD card, I need storage space, I'm stuck! If I don't do this update quickly, I'm afraid the situation will worsen; I can no longer access my files, it keeps crashing.

Does anyone have a solution? It would be very kind, as I don’t know what to do anymore, I’m lost.

Thank you very much :)

Hello.

When it comes to updates, the only storage that matters is the phone's internal storage, not that of the SD card. Your phone doesn't have sufficient storage space, which means the internal storage is full. To use a phone smoothly today, you need to buy a phone with at least 128 GB of internal storage, which is not the case with yours.

You have two solutions:

Either uninstall as many apps as possible until you have enough space.

Or buy a new phone with higher storage capacity.

Hello, thank you very much for your response.

Indeed, I hadn't planned for this, it only has 50 GB but I thought it wouldn't be a problem since I intended to store my photos on the SD card. Yet my old phone didn't have more storage and I never had this issue.

As for the apps, I've already uninstalled everything, I have nothing left... I also deleted quite a few photos but nothing works, the problem persists, the memory remains full, this isn't normal.

I don't know what to do anymore... And my photos are very precious, I can't touch them.

I explained my problem to the customer service of the store where I bought it and they're offering a repair, but I'm really afraid of losing my data.

It's also impossible to transfer to a USB drive, another device, or social media; I always get an error message saying the storage is full.

I'm really at a dead end...

You need to transfer all your photos from the internal memory of the phone to the SD card, or you can also transfer them to your PC. The SD card does not count; it is only there for storing documents (photos, videos, etc.), not for the system.

If you have no photos or videos on the internal memory, apart from uninstalling as many apps as possible or changing your phone, there is no solution.

Your problem is very common; when you buy a phone, the storage capacity of the internal memory should be considered first.

It's true, but precisely, and as I mentioned earlier, I've tried EVERYTHING: deleting all the apps (nothing works), and as you said, I also wanted to transfer my photos to the SD card, but I get the error message every time...

I have about half of my photos on the internal memory (I have a lot) and the other half on my SD card, I've tried to sort them and I've deleted nearly 500, but the storage doesn't decrease... Not even 1 MB free.

I think it's more of a defect with my phone, and after some research, I've seen that many people are complaining about this smartphone...
