Photos uploading to Drive
MarcoLaroche Posted messages 2 Status Membre -
Hello,
I notice that I have photos appearing in DRIVE without my request. I save my photos in a chosen folder on my hard drive but I don't want them to end up in Drive.
I would like to decide for myself without it being automatic or not being able to use Drive.
Thank you very much

Hello Pierr10 and saintaise17,
I completely understand your situation, as I have encountered this problem within our content creation agency, especially regarding the management of our photos. Let me help you clarify the situation and find an appropriate solution.
Automatic synchronization issue with Google Drive
From your description, it seems that your photos are automatically synchronized with Google Drive without your explicit intention. This can happen for several reasons, often related to the synchronization settings of your smartphone or computer.
Checking Synchronization Settings
-
On Smartphone:
- Open the Google Drive app.
- Go to Settings (often accessible via the three-bar menu at the top left).
- Look for an option called Backup and Sync or something similar.
- Make sure that photo synchronization is turned off. If it is enabled, your photos may be automatically backed up in Drive instead of Google Photos.
-
On Computer:
- If you are using the "Backup and Sync" application from Google for computers:
- Open the app and go to Preferences.
- Check the selected folders for synchronization. If your photo folder is checked, it means it is synchronized with Google Drive.
- You can choose to disable synchronization for that specific folder.
- If you are using the "Backup and Sync" application from Google for computers:
Why are your photos ending up in Drive?
- It is likely that during the installation of the synchronization app (Backup and Sync), certain settings were configured to include your photo folder in the automatic synchronization with Drive.
- Another possibility is that you configured Google Photos to also back up to Drive, which is not the default behavior but can be mistakenly adjusted.
Recommended Solution
- Disable automatic synchronization: As mentioned above, make sure that neither Google Drive nor Google Photos have been set to automatically synchronize your photos without your consent.
- Organize your photos locally: Before synchronizing, organize your photos into local folders outside of any automatic synchronization paths.
- Using Google Photos for backups: Google Photos is better suited for photo management, especially with options for automatic sorting and tagging. Make sure your photos are only backed up in Google Photos if that is your intention.
In Summary
It is crucial to check and properly configure the backup and synchronization settings of your devices. If you do not wish to use Google Drive for your photos, ensure that synchronization is disabled in the settings of the Google Drive app as well as in the backup settings of your smartphone and desktop application.
I hope this information will be helpful in resolving your issue with photos being automatically backed up to Drive. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us for any further questions.
Best regards,
Hello,
As for digital photos, we can assume that your issue is related to a smartphone. Can you confirm that?
Are you sure that the photos are going to Drive and not to Google Photos?
What is well understood is clearly expressed,
And the words to say it come easily.

Hello and thank you,
It would be nice to have a smartphone from which I can transfer the photos to the computer in a new folder created to sort them out!
When I opened Drive on the computer, that's where I found photos, which I think is an inappropriate place.
For your information, I am syncing with Gmail between my phone and the computer:
I have "DRIVE" in the Google applications.
I see Drive when I open the page with my photos!
Unless I’m mistaken!
Thank you very much
Good evening
I do not understand how you can have photos in Drive.
The photo backups made by the smartphone go to Google Photos.
What is in Drive is generally voluntarily deposited by the user; for example, it is folders that one wants to keep safe. It may happen that there are photos in Drive, but that can only be an exception.
I advise you to check on the smartphone how the backups are done.
You go to Settings > Google > Backup
You will see the details of what is backed up.
Normally, photos and videos are backed up in Google Photos.
What one understands well is clearly expressed,
And the words to say it come easily.
