Move photos within the same folder

Hello
I'm new to the forum and I need your help.
I would like to know if it is possible to move photos within the same folder in Windows 10. It was possible in XP (we just used drag-and-drop) but no longer in W7. While searching online, I saw that there is a registry key for W7, I tried it but it doesn’t work for W10.
Can someone help me? It would be really handy when you have hundreds of photos to organize.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
With W10, you cannot move photos within the same folder, and it wasn't possible with W7 either.
I have therefore downloaded the French software FastStone Image Viewer from CCM, which allows you to do what you are looking for.
It works very well on W10, even though it is not mentioned.
Additionally, you can rename and number the photos in the order you have chosen. (It does other things, but I haven’t tested them.)
Numbering can be done with 2, 3, or 4 digits, depending on the number of photos in your folder.
It’s simple and quick. A tutorial in French can be found.
Best regards.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your help. I downloaded this software and it worked, I can move the photos as I want.

If you have a tip, I am also looking for how to rename photos so that they stay in the correct order when scrolling on a digital photo frame.
No matter how I rename them, for example frame1000 to frame1500, the photos don't follow in chronological order, even though they are in the desired order on the USB drive.

Thank you for your help.
Best regards.

Hello again,
Open the software,
Choose the folder to rename
Select the photos (Click on the last one while holding down the shift key and click on the first one - the photos will be highlighted in blue)
Then do: Tools, Rename selected images
The photos will appear on the right side in a list.
Then, below that, in the "Rename to" box, enter the desired name in the small frame, followed by a dot and the hashtag sign. If two hashtags, numbering with 2 digits; if three hashtags, numbering with 3 digits, etc..... It all depends on the number of photos in the folder.
Then click on Start at the bottom right and you're done. Then close the software.
I hope I was clear.
However, I do not know of any other functions in this software.
I would like to add that the photos are therefore organized as they should be on your hard drive.
If you want to change the name, you restart the procedure.
One piece of advice before you start, do a test with a folder of a few photos to get the hang of it.
Best regards.
