Sudden inability to transfer files from PC to TV

A question I could have asked in the Network forum.

On the Windows side:

The problem:

All of a sudden, I can no longer transfer files from the PC running W11 to the TV.

Error message:

Solutions tested on Windows:

Note:

The 2 other checked boxes under SMB client were tested and failed.

Windows network settings:

Everything is enabled, it was working fine before.

On the TV side:

In the TV's smart hub, I go through a file manager to transfer files.

In this case, these are APK files that were previously transferring without issue.

Even an image file no longer transfers.

The file manager on the TV requests to enter the FTP address in the

Windows file explorer.

This step involves opening Windows Explorer (Enter key on the keyboard) and typing the FTP address

and entering the PC name + password.

In order to log in, go into the DEVICE folder, then the Download folder, and finally copy-paste the file that you find in the TV's file manager to proceed with the installation.

The problem is that the explorer crashes even though it is immediate, before I post the question on this forum.

This is where the problem lies.

I cannot find why it crashes when it was working fine.

Note that I performed the same procedure on 2 other TVs, which work.

In the meantime, I also tried another procedure:

Problem:

there are ads and I have to go through my smartphone, but it works wonderfully, unlike the TV's file manager (File Manager +) which does not work on a smartphone and without ads, which is great these days. (Unless finding a Mod (pirated), but that's not the goal)… And even if I know how to do it, might as well stay clean.

Moreover, it needs to be installed on the TV (File Manager +) and all permissions granted, which isn't easy to do in the settings.

PS:

(File Manager +) installed on a 2015 Samsung TV that didn't even have a search bar or magnifying glass, it’s incredible to go through a Google Chromecast to get the window (smart Hub) at 80 euros (on sale in 4K)

I had set up the Google Chromecast (including Google account) from my TV, before installing it on the other 2 TVs, which saved me time and more...

Can anyone provide an idea?

    I do not transfer my files to the TV; I use a device connected to a portable hard drive. Generally, these are video files.

    Thanks for the idea about the box; if you could elaborate a bit on this box, its name for example.

    The problem is on my Android TV; even with a USB stick connected that is well detected, I can't transfer the APKs, hence the idea of using an Android file manager that offers sharing/transferring like a server, which for me is child's play between my TV and my PC and it's fast.

    I checked on one of the two other TVs where I installed the same file manager, not on the TV, but on a Chromecast Google TV with a remote control whose smart Hub is too limited.

    I think I may have found something, but I am currently juggling to help the neighborhood; as soon as I have a minute, I will keep you updated.

    I restarted the box.

    I restarted the PC.

    I restarted the TV (I have an option in the settings).

    Unfortunately, the file explorer on the PC keeps crashing because, in my opinion, it cannot find the server offered by the file manager on the Android TV.

    PS:

    When I checked the SMB client box in the Windows features (going through Control Panel --► Programs and Features), the PC asked to be restarted to complete an update.

    I really thought for a moment that this would help me, but alas, we know how it goes.

        Thank you for the idea, I hadn't mentioned it, but I checked and the permissions I need are already granted (boxes checked).

        And since it happened overnight, I prefer not to venture too much into it for fear of making a mistake, even if we should be able to reset the firewall.

        I had hesitated between the Chromecast Google TV in 4K and the Fire TV Stick 4K

        After weighing the pros and cons, I opted for the Chromecast Google TV for the other 2 people I know, my TV has the Smart Hub already built-in, and from my TV, I installed the APKs that were requested.

        Then, the person just needs to go into the settings of the Chromecast Google TV and in the network section, manually enter the Wi-Fi key using the virtual keyboard.

        All the APKs and various settings were retained, which is a time saver, as I spent a day installing and configuring the various APKs.

        And since it's too complicated to do remotely with UltraViewer (I had TeamViewer which flagged me thinking I was doing commercial work, limiting the session to 5 minutes), I tested the file manager + to be prepared for the day when there is an update of one of the APKs or to install a new one.

    Back,

    I finally managed to identify the culprit.

    It was an '''authorization '', God only knows, that I had activated yet, for one reason or another, it got deactivated, and it didn't raise any red flags when I encountered the problem trying to transfer an APK.

    So I was futilely struggling under W11 trying to find any possible reason because the Windows file manager was crashing (black screen), and I initially had good reason to believe there was an issue somewhere under W11.

    If I hadn't installed the file manager on the 2 Chromecast Google TVs, I think we would still be looking for a solution.

    When you install something twice, in principle, you remember the procedure, but it slipped my mind; however, I wrote the procedure down three times on paper (once for myself and the other two for my acquaintances), even when rereading it, I didn't pay much attention to the permissions, as there are so many of them, especially since I activated the developer option and allowed unknown sources, just like you would on a smartphone.

    In detail, using screenshots, I will try to explain where this authorization was.

    Once the TV was turned on, I went to the settings (small gear icon) in the Smart Hub.

    Of course, what was bothering me was the file manager +

    In the Settings, I clicked on Applications and opened the file manager +

    And checked the section ==►Authorization

    And to my great surprise, the permissions were disabled.

    I then gave new direction to the permissions ==► Always allow

    I still don't understand how that could have happened.

    In the meantime, I do a test, as it turns out well, I have an APK to update.

    On the TV, in the file manager, I start sharing (to transfer the APK that is waiting for me on the PC).

    I start the service.

    I have the instructions to follow.

    To do this, on the PC I open Windows Explorer.

    I type the FTP address in the top bar.

    Then press Enter on the keyboard.

    This is where it was ''messing up'' or the explorer was crashing.

    This time, I have my session window opening properly.

    Where I just type the password, as the username is already there.

    And I click on==► Log in

    And I can access the folder =► Device

    And finally open the folder ==► Download

    To copy-paste APK files there.

    I close Windows Explorer.

    And finally, on the TV, I stop the sharing/transfer service.

    All that's left is to install my APK that is in the Downloads folder of the file manager + on the TV.

    And to launch my application to see if the update, for example, was taken into account.

    Which was the case.

    Hello,

    In order to combine the useful with the pleasant, I created a network drive.

    Before that, I copied the FTP address into a text file and saved it.

    Then I did a copy-paste in the Windows Explorer address bar of the FTP address; then hit Enter (or clicked the arrow next to the address bar).

    Then I entered the password + username and clicked on Log In.

    Which amounts to 7 or 8 clicks.

    With the network drive integrated into Windows Explorer, it only takes 3 clicks.

    As for the password, it changes with each new session to prevent hacking.

    One last note for some of my APKs.

    Ultimately, thanks to the file manager on the TV (I've installed 3), the key is well detected in the Storage section of the file manager.

    The problem is that some APKs I install from the USB key (I said it wasn't possible, but it is, thanks to that pesky permission that has disappeared from Unknown Sources) do not create the shortcut after installation.

    Moreover, it's not very convenient to stick the USB key into the side of the TV due to its location.

    What's most important is that everything works wonderfully with minimal effort.
