Hello,

Is it possible to connect to the Numericable distribution box acquired by SFR to simply access Freeview without a subscription?

Thank you

      Hello,

The fact that SFR has absorbed Numéricable is not the issue; the question is whether the cable is still in place or if it has been replaced by fiber.

You obviously cannot connect haphazardly to a distributor even if the building continues to be supplied via coaxial (with the free TNT, not the rest).

The apartments are typically equipped with wall-mounted decoder boxes where you can connect the antenna socket; otherwise, it is the responsibility of the co-owner to request this final connection at their own expense, see an example here:

        It's all far-fetched! ;-)

Well no: even if the fiber is more or less hair-like, it's fibred (or in this case, it's not).

Hello Brucine and thank you for the information, but I'm not sure the procedure is the same in all municipalities.

As for myself, it's an apartment in an old building in the city center of Bastia.

I called the former Numericable at 3990 and they told me, after I gave them the address, that they couldn't do anything because they couldn't find a contract with the co-ownership.

I then called SFR at 1023 and they said they only sold contracts with a decoder and SFR bouquet, but since the building is fiber optic, they would prefer to offer a fiber box.

As part of the complete renovation of her apartment, my client wanted to have TV via coaxial just for TNT and a simple internet subscription with a landline phone from any operator.

The problem is that I need to know where I should connect the coaxial cable.

Adding a rooftop antenna is not feasible.

I have also been involved in the renovation of a stairwell in an old building for the electrical part and I couldn't find out who is responsible for maintaining this Numericable network to replace some broken splitters!

Always looking for information on the subject or contacts...

    Thanks in advance

I don't want to contradict you, but DTT is a public service delegation, entrusted here to satellite operators and there to cable operators: it seems to me that wherever it existed, cable DTT was the responsibility of the municipality or a community of municipalities.

Now, if the building is connected to fiber by SFR, which took over Numéricable, the question is whether SFR used the pre-existing FFTB network (in French, fiber up to the foot of the building and coaxial thereafter) or completely reinstalled it with full fiber (FTTH).

In the latter case, it's dead, but even in the first case, it's likely that the fiber installation has taken the coaxial out of service regarding its function of transporting DTT; there is therefore no, historically or otherwise, wall-mounted decoder box, which is essential and what makes it impossible to connect oneself, in the apartment or those of the neighbors?

yes, but if they have taken the coaxial out of service in favor of fiber, it would mean that the right to image necessarily becomes paid.

However, the government has always promised free access to digital TV (via DTT) across the entire French territory.

      No.

The broadcast of DTT is free, but not the means to receive it, whether it involves purchasing a satellite dish, paying for the coaxial terminal connection in an apartment building, installing an individual antenna in a house, or contributing through fees to the installation and maintenance of a collective antenna in an apartment building.

    Ok thanks,

I will try to find out from other owners of the building

    Have a nice day

Absolutely, we need to see if some people are still receiving this TNT via coaxial and if so, how they managed, although this situation is becoming increasingly rare: nowadays, the majority of residents receive television through a Box without worrying about coaxial or an antenna.

I had a similar case in my building; I complained for the faulty amplifier of the rooftop antenna to be replaced, but I was the only one to notice it (probably because I'm the only one using the antenna due to my TNT adapter-recorder).

Perhaps, failing to find that famous wall decoder box in the apartment which may never have existed or might have been removed, it's advisable to get in touch with the former owner, the co-ownership council and/or the property management: there must have been a deliberation authorizing the Numéricable connection in the common areas and likely specifying the connection methods for each co-owner.
