Failed to open Corel Videostudio Pro 2021 project

Hello,

I'm used to working with the Corel VideoStudio Pro 2021 editing software. I've finished an edit that I've then converted into video format. While watching it, I realized there was no sound. This morning, when I wanted to open my project to convert the edit into another format (MPEG-4 instead of MOV), after loading, an error message appears: "opening the document failed" with an "attention" panel. Therefore, I can no longer access my edit. I haven't changed anything since yesterday. I've tried to open old projects, and the problem is the same. I want to specify that I didn't touch anything after converting yesterday. I just turned off and turned on my computer. I've never encountered this problem even though I've been using this editing software for years. Can you help me resolve it, please? It’s about fifty hours of work, and I'm a bit panicked at the thought of not being able to get it out correctly. Thank you in advance to everyone who will help me, and have a nice day.

Hello and welcome as a new member. I'm on Studio Ultimate 20, which is a bit different: if you're on Windows, which you didn't mention, perform a "system restore to a previous date" before your incident. This action allows you to return your system to its state before the crash; it's risk-free for your PC and you can easily undo the operation. Here's a guide to follow depending on your version of Windows.

System Restore to a Previous Date

Hello, in case of persistent bugs, think before making drastic changes to your computer to perform a "system restore to a previous date" (to before the bug). This is Windows' term, and its purpose is to return your system to the state before the bug; it's risk-free and reversible, and often beneficial.

Go to "Settings" and type "restore" in the box.

In the dropdown, click on "create a restore point."

Click on "system properties" then system restore.

In the box, click on "next."

Choose a date before the day of the bug.

    Next… leave it to calculate…

PS: when you want to install software or an application, it's wise to first create a restore point with a name, it will be useful in case of failure or change of mind to revert to the state prior to the installation. Note that Windows also creates automatic dates that you can use if needed.

Another thing, "in principle," a project is virtual if it has been saved during the last use; you can find it in the folder My Projects.

    Your turn…

"Donkeys change their minds but fools do not."

    Hello Glandu,

Thank you for your response. I am on Windows 10.

Does this detail change anything about the solution you provided me?

    Thank you for your feedback.

Hello, it’s Windows that recommends this method; it’s the only thing to do before anything else.

    Hello everyone,

Glandu: (hi, it's been a while...) Wouldn't it be easier to reinstall your Corel?
It happened to me with Studio 15, once or twice. This software tended to crash....

    Best regards!

Hello txiki, I primarily propose this method; your idea is risky because since the project is virtual and not recorded, reinstalling will result in losing all the unsaved RAM connections.

      See you later.

        Hello and thanks, idiot,

Restoration is a very uninteresting solution but personally, I've never used it.
It's a shame because it puts a computer back in good condition.

You are absolutely right about the links in a project, I hadn't thought of that.
        Have a good day!

Here I am again! I solved my issue!!! I tried creating a new project to see... I inserted photos and then a video. And when I inserted the video, a sort of error message popped up asking me if I allowed something for the playback of this video (don’t ask me what, I’ve already forgotten!!!). I had never experienced that before... So I clicked OK and then saved and closed my "trial" project! This message caught my attention, so I tried opening my project from last night again and miracle, it works again!!! So happy! I think I must have unchecked or checked something I shouldn’t have last night while converting my edit into a video.

I hope everything works now because there was no sound in the video I created yesterday (MOV format) while the sound is indeed present in my edit.

I am currently attempting a new share in MPEG-4 format. The edit lasts 2h17 and the estimated output size is 15.1 GB. I had already tried a conversion of 1h38 of this film to MPEG-4 and it went smoothly. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes just as well!!!

Thanks to the 2 people who replied to me. ??????????
