"AMD has detected a driver overrun on your system"

Hello, since March 2023 I have a new PC with an RTX 4070 ti and a Ryzen 9 7900X3D. I mainly play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. For about a month now, my PC has been crashing, freezing and a black screen appears for about 5 seconds. This is when the message "AMD software has detected a driver timeout on your system." appears through the AMD bug report tool. If anyone has a solution, I'm all ears! Thanks.

Hi

It's a big setup that needs to be perfectly cooled. How are your temperatures in games? In particular, the CPU. You can easily check with the software HWmonitor.

Hello, thanks for your reply. My temperatures reach a maximum of about 81°C while gaming.

Hello

Go to the Windows Registry Editor (regedit)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SOFTWARE> Microsoft> Windows> Dwm

look for the DWORD value OverlayTestMode and set it to 5
Then restart the PC

If you don't have the Dwm key showing under Windows

Copy-Paste this code into a text file

 Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm] "OverlayTestMode"=dword:00000005

Save it under any name and remember to change the .txt extension to .reg at the end

Then double-click on it
Click Yes then OK
and restart the PC

Hello H0enheim. Thank you very much for your response. I can't find DWORD OverlayTestMode. So I tried the second method, but when using Notepad, I can't change the .txt to .reg. Here are some pictures to help you. Have a good evening!

Thank you all very much for your help!

Hello roro
You can also rename your file (apparently it’s cpu ; since it has no extension) add .reg (.reg) > cpu.reg
Or maybe you didn’t check the box to enable extensions

Otherwise, for the registry, I see that you already have the key Dwm
Inside you can right-click, create a dword32bits value

Here’s a tutorial >

Then restart and test

Good luck
