Orange Email Security

Hello. Orange is sending me (at least, I suppose) a recommendation regarding email security:

  1. From a computer, open your Orange email in a web browser via the orange.fr portal
  2. Go to Settings > Security > POP or IMAP Protocols
  3. Click on the "Modify" button
  4. Select "No, I do not want to access my emails via POP or IMAP, and I disable this option"

Confirm

So? What should I choose? SMTP isn't any clearer! Thanks in advance to the community.

Hello,

Are you sure about the origin of the email?

Hello "Panth33ra". First, thank you for your response. No, I am not sure about the origin of the email. I have had some problems with Orange, which has difficulties recognizing its advertisements (legitimate or not)! This is somewhat the subject of my question.

Uh! I made a mistake: I wrote "Jojoguitare" instead of "Jojolaguitare" in my previous message. My apologies.

Hello... It's not a big deal at all! As a side note, the little girl (two years old at the time, in 2006) of the singer in my band also omitted the "la." No matter how much we tried to get her to say jojo-the-guitar, it didn't work. It certainly made us laugh. Wishing you all the best... See you later!

Hello "Jojoguitare". Thank you for replying to me. I have already had some issues with Orange which has difficulties recognizing its advertisements (legitimate or not)! This is actually the subject of my question. Okay, I understand. Thank you.

Hello, Orange has indeed sent this recommendation by email.

As stated in the email, you can disable POP/IMAP access for your account if you are checking your emails only from a web browser on orange.fr.

Do not disable POP/IMAP access if you intend to check your emails from a software on your computer (Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird...) or from your mobile with an email app, as otherwise you will no longer be able to do so and you will have to use the web browser.

Hello. Okay, the word fraudulent isn't really appropriate, but considering that . . . <<< Warning, once access is disabled, you will no longer be able to access your email from any third-party software or email applications using the POP or IMAP protocol. If you attempt to set up or access your Orange email, you will receive an error message on these email software or applications. >>>

Hello Guillaume. I'm very wary of Orange with their legitimate or not ads. For an ISP, they don't put in much effort to inform their customers. Anyway, as "Lagaffe" would say, I'll try to contact them just to see their reaction. Thank you for responding to me.
