Hello, I ordered from SHEIN on 07/08/2023 with express shipping in 5-7 days, and it tells me that since 07/12/2023 my package is departing from Hong Kong. Is that normal or not? Or is there a glitch?

Hello.

It tells me that since 12/07/2023 my package has been departing from the flight in Hong Kong

That is quite normal.

In express delivery parcels within 5-7 days

This timeframe starts from the shipping of the order and not from the day of the order; for China, the given delays are approximate, so there is no need to worry.

Yes and then? There's nothing unusual.

Hello

Regularly for the past 2 years, there has been a customs hold in Hong Kong for 4 days and actual delays longer than expected on Shein.

The Shein France website seems to not initially indicate that the items may come from China after the order is placed. These customs delays in Hong Kong would not concern items that are already present on websites in France or Europe, for example.

There is never a delay for customs clearance at the airport, and it's possible everywhere upon arrival as well.

Shortly after June 15, someone also reported a 4-day delay in Hong Kong, which suggests that this delay continues to happen regularly.

In France, a large influx of passenger baggage last year also blocked cargo and baggage customs for a long time (more unexpected long-haul passenger flights departing simultaneously in many countries), and the later-than-expected departures of planes even caused "temporary losses in tracking" of bags that went in several directions: passengers who were on vacation for a week abroad had already returned without seeing their luggage at their destination. These were not just simple packages traveling alone in theory, but it did happen.

Cargo often flies on passenger planes when there's space available, so it depends on the amount of passenger baggage; it can be rerouted through other airports without notice to take a plane that has free space, etc.

An airport can therefore block others without being part of the planned journey.

Ultimately, just 2 instances of 4 days in customs would already be longer than the express delivery time overall, and this is part of the "normal unexpected delays" of the contract just like the change of planes by airports, even if in the first and last country you have a more expensive express service that operates.
