Changed my GTX 1050 graphics card

Good evening and thank you for this forum....

I'm not very familiar with the field, that's why I'm asking for your help please.

I have an HP Omen 870-211nf with a GTX 1050 graphics card and I would like to improve my PC. I have a 250 GB SSD and I bought a 2 TB SSD to replace a 1 TB HDD. I also bought 8 GB of RAM because I only had 8 GB. All the games launch from the 1 TB HDD and not from the 250 GB SSD, that's why I bought a 2 TB SSD to ease the PC :) Now there's the issue with the GTX 1050 graphics card, a small one with a fan and 2 GB, and a 300 W power supply.

Is it possible to buy a better one? My son doesn't play very demanding games.

Is it possible to change the power supply??

Are there small-sized graphics cards??

Thank you.

    Hello,

In theory, you can put any current GPU to replace your GTX 1050, as long as you choose a model that fits in your PC case. Another issue is the power supply. If it is a standard ATX, you can replace it with a more powerful one. In any case, if you want to replace your GPU with a more powerful one, it should be a model connected to the power supply via one of the PCI-Express 6 and/or 8 pin cables at least.

    Thank you.

How can I find out if my motherboard has these features? Are they indicated on my PC's link?

What GPU can I buy that is compatible with a 300w power supply? And that it is small in size? The 1050ti?

    Hello

If it's this PC: OMEN by HP 870-211nf Product Specifications | HP Customer Support

I think it's pointless to change the graphics card; it's not very upgradeable since the processor is outdated, and the power supply is of limited wattage.

Possibly a GTX 1650.........second-hand (no more than €100, anything above that is a rip-off)

Technically yes, materially you need to consider the dimensions and choose accordingly, but only you can see that since you have the PC in hand. As for the power supply, a 300W is enough for a simple 1650.

    A 1650 is about 40% more powerful than a 1050.

I found a new Asus Phoenix GTX 1650 Super for 100 euros on Le Bon Coin, it has one fan like the 1050 and I have the dimensions to see if it fits or not :)

    Thank you ????

Yes, but be careful, this is not a "simple" 1650 but a "super" that is more powerful than the simple one and it requires a power connector from the PSU. Take note of this point.

The one I was recommending is a regular 1650 without a power connector.

The most well-known: Asus, MSI, Gigabyte

Other major brands: Zotac, PNY, Palit, Inno3D

      Another brand to avoid.

Oh really?? No difference?? My son has only one game that bugs from time to time, so this one should work, right??

In my first intervention, I noted that the wisest choice was to leave the PC as it is, but that a 1650 could be considered, being about 40% more performance than the 1050.

The problem is that looking for a more powerful graphics card will involve more expenses; the power supply will no longer be sufficient, the processor will be lagging and limiting. Etc...

I know it's an old PC, I want to improve it so it lasts at least another year while I buy another one at my leisure... I just added 8GB, a 2TB SSD, and a small upgrade to the graphics card for €60, so not much, plus I can keep the SSD for the next PC :) .

A technical question, should I build a PC with a technician or buy a branded PC??

A technical question, should I have a PC built by a technician or buy a brand-name PC?

A custom-built PC will last longer and will be easier to upgrade in a few years.

      My advice:

Consult with a micro-entrepreneur specialized in IT repair; with him, you establish your needs, starting with a defined list of hardware. You purchase the parts and a Windows license, and he takes care of the assembly. The package is under €100, including the installation of Windows and drivers, usually around €80.

Flo 88 ... yes, it’s me who makes the decisions :)

    Thank you

But I paid 70€ to upgrade the PC, it’s not like spending a minimum of 1200€ during the holidays for a PC
