Unable to send emails to gmail addresses from my email

Solved

Hello

For several weeks now, all the messages I send to recipients with gmail.com addresses are being rejected. I have no problems with addresses from other servers (laposte.net, orange.fr ...)

My email address is as follows: ***@***

The server is sending me the message below:

This is the mail system at host smtp4-g21.free.fr.
I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not
be delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below.
For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster.

If you do so, please include this problem report. You can
delete your own text from the attached returned message.
                   The mail system

<***@***>: host gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[66.102.1.27]
said: 550-5.7.26 This mail is unauthenticated, which poses a security risk
to the 550-5.7.26 sender and Gmail users, and has been blocked. The sender
must 550-5.7.26 authenticate with at least one of SPF or DKIM. For this
message, 550-5.7.26 DKIM checks did not pass and SPF check for
[*****.fr] did not 550-5.7.26 pass with ip: [212.27.42.4]. The sender
    should visit 550-5.7.26
    https://support.google.com/mail/answer/81126#authentication for 550 5.7.26
    instructions on setting up authentication.

    end of DATA command)

I think Gmail is blocking me for security reasons. I've been able to send messages to gmail.com addresses for years!

Could you please help me?

Thank you very much

MJo

Hello Marie José,

This is a message deliverability issue, nothing to do with Thunderbird or any other email software; it's related to your provider AMEN.

To combat spam, there are tools that email providers can use to "prove their legitimacy".

These tools are called SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. They help authenticate the sender and provide guidelines to follow in the case of an unauthenticated message.

When it comes to spam fighting, Gmail is quite at the forefront, while some other providers are lagging behind. Therefore, I think Gmail has toughened its stance and no longer accepts messages from providers that do not implement the three aforementioned tools.

I am in the same situation as you because my provider uses SPF but has still not set up the DKIM signature after all these years, which I find unacceptable for an email provider.

If you want to test the deliverability of your email, there is a site:

https://www.mail-tester.com/

To use it, simply send an email (from your AMEN address) to the email address above the blue button. Once the email is sent, you return to the page and click the blue button to display your score. Below the score, you will find all the technical details corresponding to the configuration of the AMEN email server.

Hello.

Thank you for your very technical response.

I am with IONOS. I have set up the SPF and DMARC functions.

IONOS told me they do not implement DKIM but they claim that the function is not essential. They suggest using MAILCHIMP to create it. Unfortunately, the step-by-step demo does not match the Mailchimp site, making it impossible to complete.

Honestly, all these manipulations are beyond the reach of 99.9% of email users.

Hello and thank you Barnabe

I followed your advice. I get a score of 6/10. My server is not blacklisted. That's already something. However, indeed, I am not passing the SPF, DKIM, and DMARC barriers.
The final response is: "You are not perfectly authenticated (-2)." In detail, I am told

[SPF] *********** does not allow your server 212.27.42.6 to use my domain name (-1)

Your message is not signed with DKIM (-1)

You do not have a DMARC record

I will contact my provider AMEN.

Hello Barnabe

It's all good. AMEN did what was needed and I can now send emails to Gmail addresses or others again. I'm so happy. I think this hosting provider is implementing what’s necessary to bypass the SPF, DKIM, and DMARC barriers on a case-by-case basis, as needed. My server has now become securestmp.

Thank you for your insights

Hello.

It's not you who is blocked; it's all the email users who are not using a gmail account.

The two solutions that Google offers are hellish to set up. Personally, I have given up.

https://support.google.com/mail/answer/81126#authentication%20for%20550%205.7.26%20%20%20%20instructions%20on%20setting%20up%20authentication.

The only acceptable solution I've found is to use Google's webmail for recipients at gmail.com.

If anyone has an "acceptable" solution to implement, I'm all ears.

Hello and thank you for your response SAT.

I have a Gmail address that I can use and I am already using it.

But the one that has been in my life for over 10 years is from the AMEN domain. It’s everywhere, even in administrative matters, even in groups with multiple members that serve for communication. It’s very difficult for me to do without it. For example, today I replied to a group and all the Gmail addresses bounced back with errors, dozens of them. It's the first time.

Hello SAT

It's good. AMEN did what it needed to do and I can send emails to Gmail addresses and others again. I'm so happy. I think this host is implementing what it takes to bypass SPF, DKIM, and DMARC barriers on a case-by-case basis, as needed. My server has become securestmp now.

Thank you for your insights

Hello

The settings for your sending address are outdated

The email address does not meet Google's standards, which is why your messages are being rejected

The solution is to delete this account from the dashboard and recreate it

If your servers are IMAP and SMTP, your messages will be re-downloaded

Unless you can provide the settings for this account (apart from the username, obviously)?

For verification purposes

IMAP, port, security, password: ?

SMTP: ?

Hello

First of all, thank you for your help.

I admit that I'm not very skilled with computers. What do you mean by "this account of tdb"? Is that a joke? I wrote down my address but when I sent it, it got erased. I rewrote it without @: ****************.fr

My host is AMEN

My server is smtp.free.fr

Port 25

Imap? I don't think so. I see POP in the account settings

If I understand correctly, are you telling me to stop using my address and change it? I've been using it for over 10 years. It's everywhere in my life.

usually personal elements are removed to ensure confidentiality, in the end you revealed everything in the text

tdb = Thunderbird

I'm giving you the settings I use for free

imap: imap.free.fr
port: 993
username: my free email address
connection security: SSL/TLS
normal password

smtp: smtp.free.fr
port: 465
connection security: SSL/TLS
password: normal
username: my free email address

port 25 is obsolete if not banned

it's up to you to choose

Thank you Redbart.

I'm going to try to modify my setup according to your parameters. But I don't think that's going to solve my problem. I've dug into it, and Barnabe and SAT (see above) confirm to me that the issue comes from my host AMEN who does not use the SPF, DKIM and DMARC tools. They are used to authenticate the sender. GMAIL is becoming increasingly secure.

I can't be the only one at AMEN and I hope they will take action. SAT seems to have set up the SPF and DKIM configuration themselves. I don't know how to do that :(

Hello Redbart

It's good. AMEN did what was needed and I can now send emails to Gmail addresses and others again. I'm so happy. I think this hosting provider is implementing what is necessary to bypass SPF, DKIM, and DMARC barriers on a case-by-case basis, on request. My server has become securestmp now.

I just took the test with Thunderbird on my address x.y@free.fr with the parameters mentioned above

I achieved a score of 10/10

Hello.

What does your comment add?

Your link does not provide any information about the SPF, DKIM, and DMARC parameters mentioned.

DKIM can be added to Thunderbird by the user

https://addons.thunderbird.net/fr/thunderbird/addon/dkim-verifier/

It is simply a signature verifier; it does not allow for signing.

It is the SMTP server that must sign the message before sending.
