Hello everyone,
The ON/OFF ribbon cable of my laptop is dead. I managed to rig up the start-up procedure using telephone wiring, and it all works.
To do things properly, I’m looking for a contact button like the one shown in the picture. I found some online, but they are too thick to allow me to properly mount the keyboard side of the case. So, if you have any ideas regarding potential suppliers, I'd be grateful, thanks in advance.
Have a good day.
Best regards.

Just a small clarification, this ribbon cable is nowhere to be found, neither at Asus nor anywhere else, and the second-hand price exceeds reason... 180€ for a piece of plastic and its button is quite outrageous!!!

Those who don't bring joy when they arrive do so when they leave.

    Hello,

What is the brand and model of your laptop?

      Hello Panth33ra,

I can obviously do that, but will it change anything about the initial question?

Asus X93SV, thanks for the follow-up

      Best regards

Thank you for the link, but I also went through that (elsewhere as well) and went over the issue before posting today's message, I'm only looking for the contact button and I'm not going to spend €180 on a second-hand ribbon cable (not to mention I'm not even sure it works) for a PC that's not exactly fresh anymore.
This PC is fully upgraded and works very well for the use I make of it.
I had mentioned in my initial question that the ribbon cable was impossible to find.
        Best regards.

I read it, but nevertheless, I tried the experience. Sorry I didn't find it!

It's okay, you don't have to be sorry, thank you for being interested in the question and best wishes for the future.

    Hello everyone,
glg29: I thought your problem was solved?
And among the 2 links I proposed, there are indeed some ribbons and not at the price you mention here (a few €).
Picclick you buy a ribbon and you get the button, right?
    CJL-info: (Asus ribbons) 7 ribbons for 10 €.
    Best regards!

      Hello txiki,

The PC startup problem is resolved, but rather than connecting the wires to start the machine, I would have preferred to find the button.

I will check your links and will give you a reply. Thank you.

I thought about buying a ribbon cable that I will need to modify to recover the button, and since it involves an integrated circuit, it might not be certain to get it in good condition, while just the button would be easier to use.

      Regards

Hello! And what about recycling centers? Or Emmaus, etc??? Even if they don't work, the buttons are probably still functional! Just look at the broken remote controls, it's the same principle. Good luck!

      Good evening txiki,
I'm back with updates. Most of the remote controls I've opened do have a contact button, but it is directly connected to the footprint of an integrated circuit when pressed.
The one I'm looking for is a self-contact, I'm not sure if that's the right name for it, but it has no effect on an integrated circuit; it allows for contact when pressed and the PC starts as a result of this action, then it returns to neutral position.
For now, the PC starts when I make contact with the wires, which is already not bad, I must say. In the meantime, I'm still searching...
Thank you for keeping in touch.
      Best regards.

      Hi glg29,
OK, from what you’re saying, it’s not a simple "sheet" that connects two parts of the circuit to create continuity.
In your case, it must be two thin sheets that stick together when you press on them (but they don’t stay in contact when you let go, right?).
I don’t see any other solution than to replace this flexible ribbon. God knows I’ve looked into it but haven’t found anything similar! Not yet.
      Sorry!

I think that's what you describe well when you say two sheets that make contact when they stick together, but they don’t stay in contact; it starts the PC by impulse and then an auto-hold (I suppose) keeps the PC running.
It's not very aesthetic, the cables coming out from the power button, but it works that way... I don’t intend to spend a hundred euros on a ribbon cable; the sellers take advantage of its rarity to raise the price.
