The "PRINT SCREEN" key is giving me problems: it seems to have 2 available functions, but after trying a lot of manipulations and options I still can't take basic "screenshots".... I'm used to clicking on the 'print screen' key and then going into "PAINT" or another program to paste the captured image and save it.... well, not this time!!!

    Hello,

    On my PC (Windows 10), the Windows key + Print Screen takes a screenshot that I can retrieve by pasting it into a graphics software and creates a file /images/screenshot/screenshot xxx.png

    They recently discovered a flaw in the capture tool, I don't know if it's related.

    Install GreenShot, it takes the PRINT SCREEN key into account.

    (Which you can then crop before finalizing the recording)

    Well, at my place (W7 64 bit, yes!) it's Alt (left) + Print Screen to capture the active screen when using 2 screens (extended desktop).

    In terms of functionality, I agree with bg62, the PRINT SCREEN key should be sufficient on its own, as its name suggests.

    But it is also true that with certain software (CAD, remote monitoring, etc.), it is necessary to press the Windows key first and then PRINT SCREEN.

    And as baladur pointed out, the Fn key on laptops allows for dual functions on the keys.

    That being said, in the majority of cases, the PRINT SCREEN key is sufficient on its own; if it is non-functional in all situations, there is indeed a malfunction.

      On my keyboard, which is not that of a laptop... "Prt Sc" is written in blue under the "Insert" key and is accessed by holding down the "Fn" key...

      In the images of the keyboard of this HP Omen laptop, it seems to me that "Prt Sc" is also written above the "Insert" key, hence my suggestion.

        If your keyboard doesn't have a numeric keypad on the right side, that's normal. Depending on the brand and the functions implemented by the manufacturer, many keyboards feature the Fn key, and it's almost always present on laptops.

    great all these solutions ...
    - Windows+PrintScreen = no
    - the other solution (W10 or W11) might work, but it requires 3 keys to be pressed ...
    - I’m fine with a third-party 'software', but normally on Windows it shouldn't be mandatory, except for more advanced functions ...
    - Alt(left)+PrintScreen = random ...
    - almost 'YES' .... with Fn+PrintScreen it works, which is already something!!!
    but I would still like to manage to set it up to use just one key, that should be doable, right?

      On laptops (mine is a Dell), you can reverse the operation of FN.

      With FN+Esc there is a flip/flop of the functions. It is also possible in the BIOS to have FN enabled.

      But by doing this, F1, F2, F3 ..., are no longer directly usable; you have to activate them with FN.

    Hello,

    At my place:

    - Print Screen = Capture to clipboard

    - Windows + Print Screen = Capture saved in the Images/Captures folder

    - Since Windows 10, Windows + Shift + S allows you to capture by selecting an area (like the Snipping Tool); although it's not a single key, it can be done with one hand.

    Indeed, on this model, the "Print Screen" and "End" functions are on the same key. As mentioned before, you need to use the "Fn" function key at the same time.

      You also have a small portable application Picpick (free version) ► Here ..... (Picpick) which allows you to take screenshots with just 2 keys Ctrl-PrtSc ... (not bad as an application)

      OMEN command center is software specific to HP.

      As for FIN, it normally sends you to the end of the page you are on.
