Unable to read block by VLC

Hello,

I had quite a few issues with VLC for converting DVDs: “Failed to read blocks -¼ at 0×01”, a DVD that loads for 3 hours but the result is not even 1 second recorded, etc. And for a specific DVD (let's call it NN), it wasn’t the movie but a documentary (I wasn’t aware that it was on the disc, it must correspond to a bonus) that was copied at the end of the conversion process. Since I couldn’t install libdvdread/libdvdcss (libdvd-pkg.deb) via the helpubuntu site (since the command line “sudo” & “apt-get” were not recognized by my Windows 8 command prompt), I tried to install Chocolatey:

  1. with cmd -> administrator mode, access was first denied by Avast, I reconfigured the antivirus to allow the Powershell.exe app while keeping ransomware activated -> the line of code "passed", immediately there was a new intro line ready for a new command to type: no bug or notification error, it seemed too good to be true that the app was installed so easily & discreetly. So I tried to search for software but the term "choco" was not recognized. So I'm not sure that the previous command/program was executed.
  2. with Windows PowerShell: I don't know how to enable administrator mode on this terminal, so I tried the non-admin method from the Chocolatey site and there were quite a few errors detected by the terminal “cannot find a positional parameter accepting the argument 《installation》”, “exception when calling 《DownloadString》 with 《1》 argument…” etc.

In short, after step 1, I was able to read/convert entire movies for the first time (compared to 0 seconds of clip, 12 seconds of legal mentions, there's progress) -maybe because they were less protected, maybe because Chocolatey was installed which had an effect? Now for the film NN specifically an error now displays 《DVDRead: cannot read block 3872》so I can't even convert just the documentary. The update checked that it was indeed the latest version of VLC and I don't think the problem lies with the conversion format.

For helpubuntu I understood that it suits a Linux operating system hence my difficulties; so I could try to install the libdvdcss.dll library for Windows 10/8/etc but then I wouldn’t know how to "combine" it with VLC, nor how to open and/or install it in the right place -from what I read, it seemed necessary for files as they are.

Can someone help me (with all these questions at once but specifically the film NN :'))?

Are your DVDs purchased (movies, concerts, etc.) or burned on a PC?

It's quite lengthy, but it works, thank you!
