As a Windows XP user, I used Works to create my documents, which I copied to an external hard drive.
I changed my computer (which is now running Windows 8) and saved my compilation of files that was on the external hard drive.
However, I can't read these Works files (wps) with Windows 8.
Is there a solution?

Hello
Works is compatible with w8, so the simplest solution is to reinstall Works on w8.
Otherwise, with Office or OpenOffice:
You need to open MS Office or Open Office and select 'File > Open' from the top menu and choose the WPS file to open.
Once the file is open, you can also save it in another format. If you select 'File > Save As'... you can specify the desired extension for saving (DOC or DOCX for MS Office, ODT for Open Office).
If that doesn’t work, try “Libre Office,” the competitor of “Open Office”!!!
It is also possible to use the Works 6.9 file converter offered free by Microsoft > Click on this link

Hello to you -
Thank you for your response, but while the download of works happens normally, the execution of the file does not take place.
As if Windows 8 refuses to recognize this file.
Have a good day. -
I have the same problem opening my .wps files created on Windows XP and some on Vista.
But it's impossible to open them on Windows 8.
I currently have Word with Microsoft Office 2013 and it won't read them either.
Microsoft and 01.net no longer offer Works for download.
And the Works 6.9 converter solution suggested by flo88 doesn't work either. -
Hello, after trying numerous solutions I partially solved the problem by downloading "Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003" (the date is important). We can read and edit wps files but we cannot modify them.
Have a good day.
