Formatting a Samsung SSD T7 for a Mac...

Hello,

I just received a Samsung T7 external hard drive (which has been used before but has been wiped and reset) that I would like to connect to my iMac (OS High Sierra 10.13.6) and use as external backup.

It's tricky... I would like to format it with FAT32 but I'm not really sure how to do that...

Is there a way to do it that's not too complicated for my modest means?

Thank you in advance and see you soon.

A priori, it's as simple as that: you need to launch the "Disk Utility" tool found in /Applications/Utilities. You select the root of the disk and click on "Erase". In the settings window, you choose the "GUID Partition Map" scheme and the format of your choice:

But why FAT32, a format that is likely to limit you quite a bit?

Well, I managed to make some progress and I chose APFS for the formatting. The problem is that it gives a weird result...

I don't understand what you're trying to do. This is the content of a Time Machine backup; this file is a "technical" file of the application, and the user should not intervene with it (it's simply an indication that the backup is in progress). You just need to let Time Machine do its job; it generally does it quite well. ;-)
