Hello,

I am unable to execute the VMcopy18 file (installing Windows Mail on Windows 10). Once the download is complete and the VMcopy18 file has been extracted, when I try to run it as an administrator, I get two error messages. The first one states Launch_Folders 1 with a red cross, and then another message telling me Run-time error "13": type mismatch.

Can you help me resolve this issue? Thank you.

Best regards.

Nicolas

Hello,

Follow this tutorial from our comrade pistouri:

Hello,

Open the link below and download the archive WMcopy18

Download the archive WMcopy18

 http://dechily.org/Forum_Aski/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=2040

If you don't have anything to unzip the archive, right-click on the archive --►Extract All --► select Desktop

Then run WMcopy18 as Administrator (with right-click):

(Sometimes, you may need to do it 4 to 5 times) otherwise you won't get the Windows Mail shortcut

Then continue with the procedure in the guide.

@ Pierrot (whom I greet).

I had put WMcopy18 as a link (recently modified guide) and the link to the guide has become obsolete (CCM bot).

I will fix this.

I’ve fixed this.

Good luck to Nike_521

Hello Pistouri,

I repeated the operation with the active link (http://dechily.org/Forum_Aski/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=2040

but I still have the 2 error messages Launch_Folders 1 with a red cross and then another message indicating Run-time error "13": type mismatch.

I tried to open winmail in WM_64 and WM_32 but I also have a message indicating the absence of a library and the file msoe.dll while it is present in the files?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Have a good evening.

HelloNike_521 ,

It's normal to have these errors.

Click on OK for each error.

Until you see the image below:

We can't see it in the image, but you need to click on --►OK

And you restart WMcopy18 as an Administrator 2 or 3 more times, clicking on OK each time you see an error message.

Then, you will see if you can find the Windows Mail shortcut.

==►ThisPC►Local Disk C►Program Files ►Windows Mail (392KB)

If you don't see it, you need to restart WMcopy18 as Administrator.

On a neighbor's PC, I had to do it 6 times to see the Windows Mail shortcut.

On my clean install of Windows 11, I launched WMcopy18 once and there were those dialog boxes with error messages each time, and each time I clicked OK to ignore the errors.

Hello Pistouri,

This is not working, I've done the operation about ten times... I keep getting the same errors.

Do I have the Windows Mail folder multiple times with the application on the PC, is that normal? Are there other settings I should check according to you? Could the Windows 10 version be blocking the program?

Could migrating from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 block other settings?

c:programs\Windows Mail.aski

c:programs(x86)\Windows Mail.aski

c:windows.old\program files (x86)\Windows Mail

c:windows.old\programs\Windows Mail

Best regards.

Nicolas

It is normal to have these 2 folders below:

 c:programmes\Windows Mail.aski c:programmes(x86)\Windows Mail.aski

It is less normal to have these 2 folders below:

 c:windows.old\programmes files (x86)\Windows Mail c:windows.old\programmes\Windows Mail

But it doesn't change anything about the installation of Windows Mail.

With Windows Old in both lines, it is possible that you have just upgraded to W10 or performed a system restore or simply that during the installation of Windows Mail, these 2 folders were created, do not take them into account

As for the errors, it is normal to have them, you need to click OK each time.

Because the purpose of WMcopy18 is to create the Windows Mail shortcut, that is why you need to run it several times until you find the Windows Mail shortcut that will allow you to enter your email and password

You need to find this shortcut, that is the goal of the procedure

It can be in 2 locations:

 C:\programmes(x86)\Windows Mail Or C:\Programmes\Windows Mail

My Windows Mail shortcut is located in --►C:\Programmes\Windows Mail

It is usually the last one in the list:

Pistouri,

The extraction seems to be working correctly as I have the WinMail file present in both the W32 and W64 folders, but it is still not working; I keep getting the two errors mentioned above, and I can't complete the execution of the VMcopy18 file.

What does the message about missing libraries mean?

Do you have any other leads?

Best regards.

Nicolas

You do have a Windows Mail shortcut.

But it's not in the right path where it should be.

It's in one of the 2 paths below:

 C:\programmes(x86)\Windows Mail Or C:\Programmes\Windows Mail

If you can't find it or see it, restart WMcopy18 4 or 5 times (as Administrator otherwise you won't be able to register anything).

Each time on the taskbar it will blink quickly each time the file is registered and click on OK for each error message:

Until you see this image below:

And you click on OK

And you start again, restart at least 3 more times WMcopy18 (as Administrator).

Then it's time to check to find the Windows Mail shortcut in:

 ThisPC--► Local Disk (C) --► Programs --►Windows Mail Or ThisPC--► Local Disk (C) --► Programs (x86)--► --►Windows Mail

In principle, it's this path:

 ThisPC--► Local Disk (C) --► Programs --► Windows Mail

I don't have the shortcut in --► ThisPC--► Local Disk (C) --► Programs (x86)--► --►Windows Mail

If you see it or find it, create a shortcut on the Desktop immediately:

Nike_521,

The procedure for the sheet is not easy for a beginner, even for a "confirmed" one sometimes.

But you are doing very well, more than I thought.

You did well to ask the question on the forum.

As the author of the sheet, I will improve it thanks to you… Thank you.

And help you, guide you (Thanks for the screenshots, it helps even if I've seen these error messages before... I'll do my best to help).

And you were very close to the goal regarding the Windows Mail shortcut (Not the right path).

I understood that you were taking the time, post by post, to carry out the procedures and to report on the forum (this post) the issues encountered.

Although your case is a bit special (particular, let's say because of the error messages) for installing Windows Mail, I am here by your side. (I will do everything possible).

A question comes to mind:

Why haven't you migrated to W11?

Think about the procedure at the end of the Windows Mail sheet, it's imperative for W11, otherwise it's over.

Backup your Windows Mail profile.

What version of W10 do you currently have?

Press Windows key + R

Type --►Winver

Post a screenshot please

Hello Pistouri,

Thank you for your feedback, I can't migrate to Windows 11 because my PC isn't powerful enough.

I have done all the manipulations again and I am giving up on the Windows 10 ISO version for now, it was the latest version of the Windows 10 update, so I have gone back to Windows 8.1, except that I can no longer launch Windows Mail. I managed to restart it (with the procedure, I had several error messages as described above, but I was able to open Windows Mail and restore my old messages, except that I exited the application and when I wanted to go back it didn't work anymore, I encountered two errors again: 0x800C1055 unable to open the Windows message store...

Unable to start Windows Mail because MSOE.DLL failed to initialize.

I also have another problem with the Credential Manager, which no longer works; I can no longer change passwords or create a new administrator account. I have an error code 0x800700005. Is there a connection between the two problems?

Best regards.

Nicolas

Hello,

You need to restore W8.1 (and directly migrate to W10 using Microsoft's Media Creation Tool)

Start with a reset of W8.1, and check if you have any Windows Update updates

Then see if you have access to your Administrator account.

If it's OK, switch to W10.

Since you have an Administrator account issue, WMcopy, which also needs to be run as Administrator due to errors, doesn't register all required files.

Windows Mail because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized

It's because of WMcopy

==► Windows Mail won't open (MSOE DLL not initialized)

The same goes for the message:

0x800C1055 unable to open the Windows message store..

See you later

Hello Pistouri,

I managed to restore an old version of W8.1 and I once again have control over the Credential Manager that works. Now Windows Mail is not working; I managed to get the application running and re-imported the old emails and contacts, but the next day when I turned the computer back on, Windows Mail was not working anymore. I have 3 error messages:

1) Unable to start Windows Mail. The application could not open the Windows Mail message store. Windows Mail could not find its message database. If you moved the files of this database to a new location, click OK to set a new database path to this new location. Otherwise, click Cancel to continue.

2) Unable to start Windows Mail. The application could not open the Windows Mail message store. Insufficient memory on your computer or your disk is full. 0x8010000A

3) Unable to start Windows Mail. MSOE.DLL cannot be initialized.

I therefore uninstalled WMInstall and redid the manipulation:

Each time on the taskbar it flashes rapidly every time I register the file and click OK on each error message:

Until you see this image below:

And you click on OK

All this works, but as soon as I click OK

The application closes and I get the 3 error messages mentioned above.

What should be done?

Thank you in advance for the answers.

Nicolas

Hello,

 What should we do?

I might have an idea to suggest to you.

Because you are on W.8.1

And you did the operation with WMcopy18, and therefore it doesn't work.

At one point for W.8.1, it was WMcopy16

Unfortunately, the site has removed the download link (it's not a problem to share the link on the forum, I have it).

So 2 possibilities:

Great to finally be an Administrator, even though you didn't say if it's on a Microsoft account or a local account.

-1- With WMcopy16

-2- It's to switch to W10 as I asked you.

From there ... the rest:

If you do it with the Media creation tool, we'll assess with WMcopy

With WMcopy18 (no other possible choices, would it be for W10 or W11).

Try to switch to W10:

You will lose Windows Mail which is normal, Microsoft will remove it/Delete Windows Mail (the base Windows Mail files will remain without their shortcut and also other files to restore, hence your current errors) during the upgrade, and we'll resume with WMcopy 18 in order to integrate the missing files, including the essential Windows Mail shortcut that allows launching the messaging).

You know how to do this now (WMcopy 18), you understood the procedure.

If you can't do it, we'll try WMcopy16 with W8.1

Ps:

I also had W8.1 in the past, like you currently, and Windows Mail was working with the procedure suggested back then. (WMcopy16 at that time).

Where it gets tricky is that without the backup of the CCM tutorial, it is nearly impossible to install Windows Mail on W11 following an upgrade or worse on a clean new installation (from a USB stick)

I do have a WMcopy16 in my archives (looking quickly)

WMcopy16

But now the procedure is done with WMcopy 18, hence the abandonment of WMcopy 16

And remember to set Windows Mail as the default email app with WMinstall

It's essential, imperative!

==► WMinstall (Set Windows Mail as default email app.)

With W8.1 or W10, and no matter the version of Windows, it is necessary for Windows Mail to be the default email app

Hello Pistouri,

Thanks again for the tutorials,

I have

to reinstall Windows Mail in Windows 10 but a few issues:

I get a message when I open WMail and I can no longer import messages, it seems like the computer can't find or doesn't have access to the path and I don't know which file corresponds, below are the captures:

Is it repairable?

Will Windows Mail work in the future updates of Windows 11? If it's a hassle, how is it possible to re-import messages into another database (I imagine a Microsoft database since there's no other choice) without losing data?

Thank you in advance.

Nicolas

Hello Nike_521,

I'm replying to start with your second question:

--► Will Windows Mail work in future updates of Windows 11?

Yes, but there is a condition, which is explained at the end of the practical sheet ==► Backup the Windows Mail account folder

==► Windows Mail account disappeared with W11 version 22h2

For the first question:

--► I get a message when I open Wmail and I can no longer import messages,

Check this:

Open Windows Mail.

Click on --► inbox

Click on --► send/receive

This is to check that your email account (servers) is properly configured.

If it is properly configured, you will see a dialog box to refresh messages from Windows Mail

And receive messages if you have any.

If, on the contrary, you have a dialog box with an error message, post a screenshot.

Example of an error:

I think you haven't properly configured your email account.

What is your provider? (FREE, Orange, SFR....).

With Windows 10, you can access email account settings in the Windows Mail options. (Not with W11, you can't anymore, hence the tutorial in the sheet to work around the problem).

Tools--► Accounts...

If you don't see the menu bar at the top, right-click and check everything. (It's the Toolbar)

Then your email account

And post a screenshot of the following tabs:

General

Servers

Security

Advanced

Mask your name (your email address) if it appears in the screenshots.

Hello Pistouri,

I do not understand why I no longer have the ability to import messages into Windows Mail.

Otherwise, the settings of the mailbox:

Indeed, I get an error message if I answer no to the question asked (server error screenshot previous message).

Thank you, see you soon

Hello,

Please give me the name of your operator (your ISP).

Example...

neuf, SFR..FREE...

It seems I read --► neuf (neuf.fr)

The servers are poorly configured apparently, checked with my magnifying glass.

Try to upload your images one by one, because we can't see them well.

Use the text editor to insert images on the forum.

Hello Pistouri,

I have attached the screenshots; yes, it's neuf.fr formerly sfr.

This morning I had a screenshot that opened quickly when I launched Windows Mail, and I don't know what it corresponds to. Could this be a sign of hacking or just a malfunction?

Best regards, Nicolas

Hello,

Thank you for the screenshots.

Here are the fixes for Windows Mail with neuf.fr

Go to your Windows Mail account:

General Tab:

Re-enter your email address (xxxxxxxx@neuf.fr) in the box --► Reply address

Click on Apply or OK.

Servers Tab:

Uncheck the box --► My server requires authentication

Uncheck everything in '' Settings '' if you have modified it.

Click on Apply or OK.

Advanced Tab:

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) --► 25 or 110

Incoming Mail (POP3) --► 110 or 587

Uncheck the box --► This server requires a secure connection (SSL).

Click on OK.

Close Windows Mail.

Restart Windows Mail.

Click on --► Send/Receive

Hello,

For the Advanced tab of the Windows Mail account settings, I've included this image below:

You also need to uncheck the first box

--► This server requires a secure connection (SSL).

So uncheck the 2 boxes that say the server requires a secure connection (SSL)

Here’s what it should look like:

For the server numbers, still in the advanced tab, try these 2 options:

Outgoing mail (SMTP) --► 25 or 110

Incoming mail (POP3) --► 110 or 587

Close Windows Mail.

Restart Windows Mail.

Click on --► Send/Receive
