"Mecha error" message on Sony MHC RG295 hifi system

After inserting a CD, the message "mecha error" appears during playback.

Unable to open the CD player tray.

This issue persists despite resetting to factory settings.

What can be done?

It's an old device and the message likely indicates a mechanical problem with the player. The error message isn’t even included in the manual.
On some devices, there is a small hole to force ejection, but here it’s a multi-disc player, so I doubt that's the case.
I’m afraid it may not be repairable, except by the brand, and I doubt they still do that. Or you need to be very handy.
By searching online, you might find the MHC RG295 Service Manual to get the technical documentation.
