I7 10700 Overheating Issues?
Beardman626 -
Hello,
I just bought a second-hand PC today equipped with an I7 10700,
I haven't done much testing yet, but in a few minutes, 1 benchmark, a 4K video, it reached 80°
Do you think that's normal?
I'm going to run it a bit more tonight, just to see if the temperature goes up beyond that or not
Thanks

Thank you,
Yes, I was worried because with my old CPU, a quite old i5 7600, I didn't go above 80° after several hours of gaming.
A stock cooler is a basic cooler, right? I think it is one, it has no brand or particular look.
By the way, the computer itself is a projectD 300.
I think I stressed it more than the CPU; right now, I'm around 30 degrees at idle.
Should I run CPU-Z or is it useless?
Thank you.
If it's a stock cooler (original included with the processor) with Turbo mode, that's nothing unusual.
Strangely, your story about your old CPU that ran cooler reminds me exactly of what I experienced with AMD AM4 processors. I have a gaming PC that will be five years old soon with a first generation Ryzen, and it always stays below 80°C with the stock cooler, whereas on my newer PC running Windows 11 with a more powerful R5 3600, it overheated significantly, and I had to opt for a better cooler because it was reaching nearly 95°C during stress tests. I believe that AMD, just like Intel, poorly managed the thermal envelope of their recent processors from 2020 to 2021; it's surprising.
So I can only recommend that you get a better cooler for your 10700.
Hello,
- A poor design of the airflow in the case can be a source of heating on the components (flow, circulation)
- A bad application of the thermal paste or poor quality of it can prevent heat from spreading to the heatsinks, causing the temperature to rise on the CPU.
- Automatic overclocking can also impact your machine's heat.
Closed case? Open? PC assembled?
Don't forget to mark your post as resolved when you have received answers to your questions...
In the land of the blind, the one-eyed men are kings.
Good evening,
as I said from the beginning (and I don't like branded PCs...)
but it had the processor I hoped for with a nice aesthetic as well)
It's an Acer ConceptD 300 (from a few years ago) with an I7 10700
open and closed, it's the same...
actually, I opened another post in the "processor" section, if you could go read it, that would be very nice :D the title includes "I7 10700"
regarding the thermal paste, the previous owner told me they hadn’t touched it (I’m not sure if I’m up for doing it...) as for the 'cleaning', it is really in an impeccable state (but not cleaned, just found a mini layer of dust on the power supply) but it is really very clean!
as for the post, I will mark this one as "resolved" even though I don’t know how to do it :D thank you :)
In fact, I think you are right
I wanted to say CPU stress
At first, during the stress test, it climbs to over 90 (I think the time it takes to understand that it will have work)
But then it drops back to 79° for the rest (I ran it several times for 6 minutes) and then it stabilizes at 79° while running at 100%
So I think everything is in order???
Thank you
