DTI Test Taking

Hello, you currently have a test DTI socket at my place as well as RJ45 connections in the rooms of my house.

The problem is that two of the RJ45 sockets are not powered and connected to the network. The two connections are plugged into the test DTI socket with gray and white colors.

My question is, can I unplug them to activate the network in the two rooms? If I unplug them, will it still work and what is the purpose of the socket? Thank you for your response.

Hello, here is the photo. My question is, can I disconnect the white and gray wire to connect it to a female RJ45 socket in order to power my wired Internet network? I have Orange fiber.

With fiber, you need to start from the box and connect the box's outlets to the patch panel outlets.

The DTI and its connections are useless.

And the two patch panel outlets with the two cables with loose wires cannot be used without being rewired.

No,

not just the gray and white wires, you need all 4 pairs, like in the diagram at <21>

Hello,

The DTI is used for telephony/ADSL; if the wall sockets are only connected to the DTI, they can only be used to move the box, not for Ethernet.

To have an Ethernet network in the apartment, you need wall sockets with 8 connected wires, and at the other end, patch panels connected to the box.

You would need to give us a photo of the box where the DTI is located to get an idea of the installation.

Fiber or ADSL subscription? Where is the box?

Hello, thank you for your response. I have a fiber connection with Orange and my box is located at my meter with wall-mounted RJ45 connections as well as the test DTI.

give us a picture of the installation.

are there any patch panels?

Hello,

You probably need more RJ45 cables for the patching; there’s a good chance that these only handle the phone. In any case, you need to start by rewiring all your wall sockets and the patch panel.

A patch panel is a female RJ45 socket, there should be as many as wall sockets.

And we no longer use the DTI; if there are 4 patch panels, we connect the 4 Ethernet outputs from the box, using 4 cables, to the 4 patch panels. If the patch panels and wall sockets are installed with all 8 wires connected, then we distribute Ethernet from the box.

The box on the right, the patch panels at the top, blue Ethernet cables in between, the DTI is no longer useful.

I can therefore disconnect the two wires connected to the DTI. This prevents me from making a wired connection in two rooms.

It's not gray and white in your photo,

try to do something constructive and factual please.

If you have 2 cables coming into the DTI and each cable has 2 connected wires (white/gray), it is no longer useful.

You need to install a female RJ45 socket on each cable and likely revise the wiring of the 2 wall sockets.

Okay, but what is the purpose of the test socket since I've got fiber?

Hi again, here is my installation. The problem is that the 2 cables you see wrapped in color are plugged into the DTI test while they should be plugged into a female RJ45 socket to go to the rooms. Can I unplug them to make my connection?

Yes, it's a shoddy job! Especially with a filter underneath. It was necessary to connect the DTI to the master filter and place 2 cables between the master filter and CH1 CH2.

The DTI is only useful for ADSL, so it has no relevance with fiber. Indeed, the cables from the DTI need to be unplugged and the RJ45 female sockets need to be rewired.

You need to check the wiring of the wall sockets. They probably only have 2 wires connected as well.

You must use the same wiring for all the sockets:

and then put 2 Ethernet cables between the box and the patch panels CH1 CH2

Super messy, yes,

2 wires in the same DTI CAD, that's just the worst :-(
