DTI Box and PTO Socket

Hello,

My landlord had my apartment renovated and they installed a DTI (I believe it's now mandatory). There are also 2 RJ45 wall sockets in the dining room; I had one installed next to my BOX and one next to my PC.

The 2 RJ45 sockets do not connect to each other and it's not very convenient since Wi-Fi is still less efficient than the RJ45 cable.

I asked the technician why it wasn't connected, and he replied that a bridging needed to be done in the cabinet but that it wasn't part of his task.

In the cabinet, there is a DTI and my BOX is connected in the room to a PTO socket.

So how can I resolve this?

Thank you for your help.

Hello

with fiber; the DTI is useless

you need this type of box

to distribute

That's true, but if you're using a switch to connect 2 ports, you might as well put a direct cable between the two (except in special cases, like if you have more than 100m of distance for example, to go up to 200).

Hello,

let's try to focus on the basics:

What you call DTI is actually a communication box with a DTI, yes, but more importantly, it's got patch panels (two at your place is the minimum) that probably go to your two wall sockets in the living room.

You're talking about PTO, so I assume it’s also installed in the living room, near your box; since that dates back, it makes sense, otherwise it should have been found in the new communication box to replace the DTI.

As for your problem, I don't quite see what's stopping you from connecting your PC directly to your box, since you say both wall RJ45 sockets are in the same room (the dining room).

However, you can take advantage of your wiring and go through the patch panel by disconnecting the two small cables that connect the patch panel to the DTI (which is useless if you have fiber) like this:

direct fiber patching © brupala

So just invest in a tiny (50cm) additional RJ45 cable or a longer one to connect the PC directly to the box.

And there you go, voilà ....

But goodness, those line breaks are so annoying!!

Hello,

If there are only 2 wall sockets in the apartment, connect an RJ45 outlet from the box to one wall socket, the PC to the second one, and at the DTI level, remove the telephone cord spider coming out of the DTI, and put an Ethernet cord between the 2 RJ45 patch panel sockets, that's how to bridge the 2 sockets.

Hoping that the wiring is done correctly for Ethernet, with all 8 wires connected, because it looks like some wires behind the patch panel sockets are not connected.

Yes, it's very alarming those wires hanging out back there, especially since they appear to be PTT298 cable, which constitutes two violations of the current standard if they have just been installed:

The 2016 standard requires grade 2TV or grade 3 cable that has the colors from the EIA/TIA 568 convention, as well as the mandatory wiring of the 4 pairs.

If the installer did not follow this, they are in violation, but it needs to be checked more closely to be certain of these violations of the standard.

Thank you both for your responses. I have a cable that I use when necessary, but it runs across the room and that's not convenient.

As for bridging, I understand that I just need to disconnect the 2 RJ45 and bridge them with a short RJ45 cable like in my new photo?

I tried, but it doesn’t work.

Hello

If it works with your wire across the room, it should work. If everything is properly connected, all the pairs of wires in all the sockets. As brupala, jeepee, and yg_be said. If it's really the 2 cables coming from the 2 sockets in the living room.

There are no other internet or phone sockets in the apartment.

Hello,

When I run my cable across the room, it's from my Box to my PC, not from one RJ45 socket to another RJ45 socket.

Yes, I was actually taking that into account.

But is it the same PC that is currently being repaired under Windows in another discussion?

Because without the proper functioning of Windows, the network tests between the PC and the box become random.

You need to dismantle the wall sockets and check if the installer messed up the standards or not, as seems to be the case.

Characteristics of the communication network Since September 1, 2016, the distribution of all services "Telephone", "Digital data (Internet)", and "Audiovisual communication services (terrestrial television, satellite, and cable networks)" is carried out via a single twisted pair cabling. The cables and terminal sockets of type RJ 45 must allow the distribution of: telephone; digital data (Internet), with a minimum speed of 1 Gigabit/s; terrestrial, satellite, and cable TV on at least 1 of the 4 twisted pairs. In addition to this installation, coaxial cabling for the distribution of TV radio frequency (RF) signals can certainly continue to be installed if the client wishes so. In addition to this installation, coaxial cabling for the distribution of TV radio frequency (RF) signals can certainly continue to be installed if the client wishes so. Explanation: this new architecture allows the distribution via the same medium of existing and emerging communication services (notably with the deployment of fiber optics) in housing, namely: telephone, high-speed Internet, IP TV, terrestrial TV, satellite and cable networks, not to mention the technical management of housing, connected objects, access control, sound broadcasting, assistance for autonomy...

This implies at least grade 2 TV cabling, as well as the cabling of 4 pairs.

Consequently, it must be correctly re-cabled, if it's new, or you can do it yourself if you don't want to wait, depending on the landlord.

On the patch panel side and the wall socket side.
