Ubuntu 22.04 Crash with Avidemux

Hello,
I recently switched from 18.04, very stable, to 22.04, which crashes quite often.
While I'm not entirely sure yet, I increasingly suspect avidemux; it was actually the only application running with Firefox during the last crash. If I don't launch avidemux, Ubuntu crashes very rarely.
Every time, Ubuntu restarts automatically.
I initially installed avidemux 2.8.1 via the PPA, then uninstalled everything before reinstalling it in version 2.8.0 via flatpak.
What information should I provide to move forward?

    Hello,

    I don't know if you've already checked this page, but point 3 references two bugs indicating that Avidemux freezes. The first one concerns version 2.8 of Avidemux. See if this could help you regarding your usage.

    Hello,

    In general, I advise you against using PPAs as they provide unofficial packages and therefore are not as reliable as those that are part of the official repositories.

    Perhaps installing an alternative software like kdenlive would be more stable.

    Yes, I used to work with OpenShot, but Avidemux has become more efficient.

    OpenShot is also giving me issues with 22.04.

    I have indeed tried Kdenlive but I'm having difficulty mastering it. I'm making progress.

    That said, to edit my video recordings, I've gone back to 18.04 which has no issues.

    So can we consider the issue resolved? Because unfortunately, as long as the bug pointed out by bendrop hasn't been reported and fixed, I don't see how we can help you further.

      Hello,

      On Windows, Avidemux doesn't crash the PC with the mentioned format (TS) from my TV recordings, but it does cause slowdowns that make their playback very difficult, if not impossible.

      However, nothing prevents us from converting them to MKV as soon as they are opened, which will then become easily readable.

      In the scenario I'm interested in, the folders to be processed consist of 4 or 5 TS files each of 1 GB, and Avidemux takes ages to open the folder in question; one could assume that if it were not 4 x 1 GB but rather 1 x 4 GB, the crash would be immediate due to insufficient system resources.

    Avidemux is highly efficient on Ubuntu 18.04 and has no issues with .ts files, regardless of their size. I even have .ts files that are 6 GB (TV capture on Raspberry), no problems.

    On Ubuntu 22.04, I have this issue with Avidemux, but OpenShot also freezes. I discovered VidCutter, but it "jumps" pitifully when launched. As for Pitivi, it doesn't start at all. Kdenlive seems to work but I haven't mastered it yet. Handbrake, on the other hand, has no issues, except for some surprises compared to the versions on 18.04 (for example, no audio track when we set French as the preferred audio and there is no French: previously it would take the foreign audio; now it just leaves it blank; it's something to keep in mind...).
