Hello,

On a friend's PC, once connected to the Canal + online site, an error message appears.

The cause of this problem may be the deactivation or refusal of cookies

In the best case, another message appears:

Cache cleared.

It works well with Microsoft Edge.

Windows 11 version 22h2.

Hello,

I remotely accessed my friend's PC for 5 hours today.

However, a brief disconnection on his side caused us quite a bit of trouble, but everything has been sorted out.

I performed a Reset browser for Firefox without success.

I backed up Firefox using Hekasoft Backup & Restore (which is no longer useful, as I've set everything up).

I uninstalled Firefox properly with Revo and cleaned/deleted all remaining folders in hidden files and folders (Program Data, Program, and Program files (x86) within AppData and roaming).

To my surprise, I found 2 installations of Firefox, one 32 bit version and one 64 bit version.

I restart the PC, and it's a disaster trying to reinstall Firefox:

I had to create a brand new profile!!!

And then we received this message:

And worse:

Or this

The culprit:

After that, and after numerous restarts of Firefox and the PC, it settled down, and the Firefox connection was established.

But the problem remains unsolved.

My friend has some ideas:

pistouri, I just tried once more to open Canal +. With Firefox, it's still the same; with Edge, it's fine. So I opened Canal + with Edge, logged in, and copied the address onto Firefox once it was open, and it works. The question remains why it doesn't work on a direct connection.

I have my suspicions. (network issue, the Orange box)

My friend is on vacation at someone else's place; there are 2 Orange boxes, but he is not connecting to the owner's one.

Darn, he told me the name of the second box, which I forget (there is indeed a Wi-Fi key to enter into his PC).

I believe he mentioned that it is a rental box (Orange), and he's actually with Orange.

So, as soon as he returns, I will go see him, or he will try himself to see if he can connect with Firefox to the Canal+ or MyCanal.

He still managed to watch the football match on Tuesday and Wednesday night without any issues on Edge.

He's a football fanatic!

To be continued.

Hello Brucine,

No:

- Restarting the disabled module.

- Launching Firefox in private browsing.

I've been searching for 3 days and I can't find the culprit.

The extension in the first screenshot is I don't care about cookies

It is disabled on the Canal + site.

Why is there a redirection, by the way?

If we try to connect directly as much as we can (I don't have Canal+), we get kicked out across all browsers:

==► Canal +

I have a Canal+ account, My Canal.

And I can log in:

I can't be the only one, and my friend can log in using Microsoft Edge.

Moreover, my 2 ad blockers are activated as can be seen #5, which does not prevent me from connecting to it.

Behind my back, my friend changed his Canal + password.

The problem persists with Firefox, but not with Microsoft Edge.

I believe he told me it's a rental box (Orange), by the way, the friend is with Orange.

I didn't quite understand everything at the time with the friend, as I was doing some operations on his PC (not necessarily on Firefox) and I only half-listened, apparently, and it intrigued me, so I got the information (I called him) without taking a distance. (Phew)..... ;-)

The box at the owner's place where he is spending his vacation is a Wifi Extender box (that's the name I didn't remember).

At my request, he sent me a picture:

A livebox Wifi Extender.

Well, I don't know anything about this Wifi Extender, definitely not any that I know of, at least. (I'm with another ISP).

I will do a Google search, even though the word ''Extender'' does ring a bell to me.

Could this Wifi Extender box be the culprit?

Especially for the proxy (see image #8--►The culprit).

To be continued...

Additionally, the friend was on a limited connection which I immediately disabled, but he was indeed on a recommended network.

I feared the worst.

It's still a strange story that happened to the friend (network + Firefox).

@the follow-up later (upon his return).

Hello,

Regarding Canal, I believe there was a problem with their site.

I don't have a subscription to Canal, but I have TV by Canal with my Freebox subscription. Usually, I connect on my tablet (which makes for a small 10" TV).

A few days ago, I tried to connect from my computer: impossible! I couldn't even log in.
Users on the Internet suggested disabling ad blockers, which I did.
There was an improvement since I was able to log in with my Freebox credentials. But it didn't go any further: service unavailable.

Currently, everything is back to normal. I can connect and watch television regardless of the browser (I tried with Chrome and Edge). I left the ad blocker disabled for the Canal site.

What is well understood is clearly stated,
And the words to say it come easily.
(Boileau)

Hello Pierrot,

Indeed, there are often bugs or outages on the Canal+ or My Canal or TV by Canal site.

On my Oppo, I've installed the TV OQEE by Free application.

I'm also with FREE, which offers this application.

Sometimes there are issues logging into your account.

-----------------------------

----------------------------

For other ISPs, I don't know if there is an equivalent of TV OQEE by Free.

For the friend, that's another problem in my opinion; I had tried on a fresh, clean Firefox without add-ons ( blockers or other extensions).

And he has Windows Defender antivirus W11, no third-party antivirus.

Hello,

The friend contacted a Canal + technician by phone.

In fact, he called 2 times because he was told to call back customer service.

The technician said that the last Firefox 106.2 update was to blame, but I don't believe a word of it because I can still access it on my side, so he said to wait for a new Firefox update.

The technician will even contact Mozilla to report the issue.

To watch Canal+ or My Canal, the technician said to use Google Chrome, which is recommended by the Canal+ team.

I had already worked around the problem by trying with Microsoft Edge, so nothing new; in fact, if I understood correctly, it works better on Chromium-based browsers and to use Google Chrome as a priority (it wasn't installed on the friend's PC, but after installation, it seems to work well).

The technician also talked about DRM (Digital Rights Management) for Firefox if the video streaming is buggy.

The technology called Digital Rights Management (DRM) allows online multimedia services to verify that the content they provide is used in accordance with their requirements. This technology can limit certain capabilities of your browser. Many services are transitioning to HTML5 video, which requires a different type of DRM called Content Decryption Module (CDM).

To disable (but this is not recommended).

We'll see if Firefox 106.0.3 fixes the issue or not.

Firefox 106.0.3 available starting at 3:00 PM (in France).

Only Windows users.

Firefox 106.0.3 is an update that concerns only Windows users. It resolves two issues on Windows. The first fix addresses a startup crash for some users on Windows machines.

-----------------

The bug affected Firefox 106.0, Firefox 106.0.1, and Firefox 106.0.2, as well as new development versions of the browser. Firefox ESR 102 is not affected. The update to Firefox 106.0.3 resolves the issue, so Windows users no longer experience startup crashes after the update.

----------------

W11

Mozilla has noticed an incompatibility with suggested actions on the new version of Windows 11 that could cause Firefox to freeze when copying text on web pages.

Hello,

I solved my friend's problem today:

It was a virus:

 Manual proxy configuration: http=127.0.0.1:8080;https=127.0.0.1:8080

This happened when he connected to the network at his vacation home at a friend's place.

Everything is working normally now on all his browsers including Firefox by default.

He can finally watch Canal + /Canalsat.

Phew!!!

Source

I'm marking the issue as resolved.

Have a great day.

Hello,

Isn't it related to an extension that would block scripts? I think I can see an icon similar to Ublock in the screenshot?
