Hello,

My neighbor is asking me to check the updates for W11.

I ask her to turn on her Lenovo PC.

And then it's a disaster!!!

Message --► You have entered an incorrect PIN code multiple times

Message --► To try again, enter A1B2C3

And then you need to type --► Verification Phrase

I tried unsuccessfully:

For the login options, password doesn't work, knowing that she logs in with a PIN code.

If we restart the PC, the same messages come back.

If we click on Login Options, it is possible to connect a USB flash drive for the PIN code or password.

I don't want to do it, even though I have a USB key to remove the password or PIN code, which I have already done 4 or 5 times.

The solution to log into her Microsoft account on another PC doesn’t work.

I am looking for another idea, solution, if someone has already encountered this situation.

Thanks in advance.

I solved the issue with the update kb 5018418 that wouldn't install.

I used one of the proposed procedures (#33) in this post ==► KB5017389 error 0x800f0988 with 22h2

Another scenario for incorrect password ==► The password is incorrect. Please try again

This case is a bit different from my neighbor's, it's even the opposite, because the message about the incorrect password appeared while uninstalling an update.

We know there's a bug with Windows Hello, but it only affects W11 and version 22h2.

So it's something else for the person in question.

Here’s what I did for my neighbor (duration 30 seconds).

Hint
To bring back the hint, it’s a phrase with a word that corresponds to the PIN code or password.
Then type A1B2C3 in the phrase To try again, enter A1B2C3
It didn't work, and for good reason, you need to type the numbers using the top keypad and not the numeric keypad on the right.
Then type the hint (the word that appears in the login option, but not every time, that's what was causing the issue, to make it appear, the hint).
And finally re-enter the password
My neighbor had entered the wrong PIN
Instead of typing 1234jyvoispasclair (it's just an example) she typed jyvoispasclair1234
Then we entered the PIN in the correct order…

Phew!

PS: my neighbor is celebrating her 83 springs tomorrow.

Hi Bazfile,

I didn't say it, but I had already tried. (hence my coming to the forum, I show up when it's too complicated or when I can't find solutions).

And 2 or 3 other well-known procedures (DISM/SFC, clearing the update cache, Windows Update service, reset, the Windows Update repair tool remains silent, by the way, there’s something wrong with W11, it’s unable to detect an anomaly)

What a hassle to unlock the confidential PIN code.

I finally managed to find it (without using a USB drive to bypass it).

But now the neighbor has another problem with the Windows Update.

Out of 2 updates, one doesn’t want to install, and the other update went through fine after a reboot.

It’s the kb 5018418 (on W11 version 22h1)

With an error message --► error 0xca02007

I need to look into this:

For Windows Hello that is acting up on W11.

The Windows Hello login may not work after upgrading to Windows 11 version 22h2 (October 11, 2022)

Microsoft confirmed today another issue on the Windows 11 health website. According to the information published by the company, Windows Hello sign-in authentication may not work after upgrading to the Windows 11 2022 update. The bug report provides additional information on the problem. According to Microsoft's description, Windows Hello authentication via PIN, fingerprint, and facial recognition may be affected by the issue. Only devices upgraded to Windows 11 version 22H2 are concerned, but only if Windows Hello was set up before the upgrade was executed. Devices on which Windows Hello was configured after the upgrade to Windows 11 version 22H2 or a fresh installation of Windows 11 should not be affected by the problem, according to Microsoft. The good news is that Microsoft has already resolved the issue in the preview update for Windows 11 version 22H2, which it released on September 30, 2022. Microsoft will include the fix in today's cumulative security updates for Windows 11 version 22H2. However, the preliminary release notes do not mention the fix. A backup suspension has been put in place until mid-October 2022 to prevent users of affected systems from upgrading to the new version of Windows 11. Microsoft advises administrators not to manually update to the new feature update for Windows 11, either by selecting "check for updates" or through other means, such as using ISO images. "We recommend that you do not attempt to manually upgrade using the 'Update Now' button or the Media Creation Tool until this issue is resolved and the safeguard has been removed." ---------------------------------------- Users who have already encountered the problem are encouraged to use the account password to log into the account on the device. Microsoft Windows users who have enabled passwordless sign-in may not be able to log into the system, depending on the authentication option they selected during setup. Administrators can install the preview update on affected devices to resolve the issue immediately. Since the stable cumulative update for October will be released later in the day, it may be better to wait for its release to address the problem. Still, in some cases, it may be necessary to address the issue early, and that is the only option until later in the day. It is not clear at this stage whether removing Windows Hello and then setting it up again may resolve the issue.

Source

Moreover, due to the Windows Hello bug, it is not advisable to perform a clean install of W11.

Where to install it directly with a local account, that is, bypass the installation of W11.

All this is giving me headaches with W11..

Hello Pistouri . . .

Regarding the pin code issue, I initially thought it might be a temporary network outage since, as we know, this code is sent to Microsoft's servers for verification and activation. But upon further reflection, I figured you must have checked that.

<<< This is giving me headaches with W11 >>>

You don't have to tell me! I myself changed PCs just a week ago and specifically got a new Lenovo running Windows 11. However, three days ago, the device wouldn’t exit simple sleep mode neither by keyboard nor mouse, and furthermore, it wouldn’t shut down when I clicked on "Shut Down," even though the screen would disconnect. It seems that the next day an update (KB5018427) fixed this "glitch," but I don't have confirmation from my side.

See you later

Hello Jojo,

After X attempts, the message "Incorrect confidential code" appears.

4 or 5 attempts from memory.

The neighbor's PC isn't that fussy.

But with her Lenovo, just to give you an idea, it's Lenovo System Update Service that does updates from time to time.

Check if you have it.

See --► Disable automatic updates for Lenovo System Update

Sometimes, it's the Lenovo Vantage application (optimize your Wi-Fi connection security, update drivers, get help, and much more).

And occasionally a Windows Update that messes up as you mentioned.

And now, I'm having issues with my brother (just called me) about an unsecured connection on streaming sites.

I took control remotely with TeamViewer.

The sites were working fine 3 days ago, I was the one who set them up.

And out of 4 sites, I've restored 3, one is missing, which works well on my PC

And this on all browsers (FF, Chrome, Edge).

I can't find the solution for now.

I suspect a blockage from his ISP --►SFR

@ Have a great weekend.

Hello,

I have identified the culprit for the dns probe finished nxdomain error on my brother's PC.

My doubts were well-founded.

Hello pistouri.

I'm sorry for not having replied until now. I've been dealing with a lot of health issues lately.

Regarding my wake-from-sleep problem, I couldn't find Lenovo System Update Service or Lenovo Vantage. And in the end, the KB5018427 update didn't fix anything. I've really tried all the sensible suggestions online, including changing the keyboard/mouse/screen. But the problem keeps coming back. So I did a complete reinstall of Windows, set the account to local, but I blocked the downloading and installation of updates for 7 days to see, and everything is working normally. So it's definitely a Microsoft update that's causing this issue. I had the same problem on my old Dell 7010 SFF from 2013. So I’m going to wait and see and install those updates, then uninstall them one by one to see which one (or ones) is causing the trouble.

Congratulations on fixing your brother's PC. A problem that's not easy to diagnose.

See you...

Hello Jojo,

It sometimes happens that updates mess up the PC overnight.

In principle, Microsoft releases a Windows update fix.

Have you thought about disabling fast startup?

Try generating a sleep study report with SleepStudy

SleepStudy covers the 3 last days of system operation, extended to 7 days with the W11 22h2 version.

SleepStudy can measure sleep performance and provides general information about each sleep session.

The SleepStudy report also includes:

Static configuration information about the hardware platform, the operating system installation, and the firmware version. A graphical view of usage trends over the last 72 hours. A summary table of each state segment, which includes: Start time, end time, and duration. Power source (mains power or battery). Power consumed by the battery and average power consumption. Each Screen Off session includes additional detailed information: The information contained in the summary table. Any blockers that prevented the system from going immediately to sleep. Each Sleep session includes additional detailed information: The information contained in the summary table, the five most active components ("top offenders") in the modern standby session. Information displayed for each component includes the type of component, the name, and the device path (if applicable). A histogram of idle time. Information about the system's battery configuration, including design capacity and number of cycles.

For my brother, I had anticipated a bit with one word missing -- ► I suspect a blockage from his ISP --►SFR

It was the SFR network that went haywire, and my brother received a SMS 15 days later.

In the meantime, I had reset the DNS (using CMD command) and the hosts file, which resulted in some streaming sites being displayed, but not all.

Did you see that!!! ==► Sabotage

But beyond the local impact, the episode affected the stability of Internet connectivity worldwide. In fact, Internet access was slower for users in Europe, Asia, and the United States. The average user like you and me didn't normally lose their connection. However, a significant increase in latency is to be regretted.

Not just at the bro's...
