Connect TV indoor antenna to Samsung TV

Good evening!

I am currently renting, there is no internet access and no antenna on the roof. So we bought an indoor antenna for €25, the most effective one we could find, and it allows reception within a 25km radius. However, when I connect it to the TV and search in "cable" mode, channel type "analog + digital," and perform a "full" search, I can't find any channels... Do we need to have a service provider to find channels??? I don't understand how it works, it should work anyway.

Hello,

An indoor antenna only works if you are in immediate proximity, in a direct line, and without obstacles from the transmitter.... So it is very likely that these conditions are not met where you are....

Oh really :/ But an indoor TV antenna is supposed to pick up signals without any internet connection or outdoor antenna, right?

Good evening,

Xileh is right, this type of antenna remains a supplementary antenna that will never replace a properly oriented rooftop antenna.
This type of antenna will not be able to catch the channels if the transmitter's signal is too weak at the location of the television.

Personally, I've solved this type of reception problem in several apartments by simply installing a rooftop antenna above a closet or wardrobe close to the television.

Another example that has worked every time for me is simply placing a rooftop antenna in the attic; in this case, I fix the antenna as high as possible and for the orientation, all you need to do is take a look at the neighbor's antenna.

However, for the cable, as much as possible, you should use the shortest distance between the antenna and the television to minimize the loss of signal strength from the transmitter.

Good evening,

At my home, 15 km from the relay antenna, reception is done through a caravan antenna installed in the attic connected to a signal amplifier, and it works perfectly despite the metal framework.

Hello,

In any case, no one would "bother" to install expensive rooftop antennas if a "cheap" indoor antenna was sufficient in all situations!

This is even more true since, at the time of analog broadcasting, it was possible to receive even with a mediocre signal - often at the cost of echoes and/or "snow"... with digital broadcasting, it's all or nothing... So, if the signal is weak... it doesn't work!...

If you want to know more about digital terrestrial television (TNT):
 Home - National Frequency Agency

As for the solutions "rooftop antenna in the attic"... it's a solution that only works if the transmitter is not too far away and especially not "hidden" by many obstacles... In short, it involves placing an antenna "higher" that also has a better gain than an indoor antenna... So sometimes, that is enough to "catch" the signal... but it cannot be generalized...
