Da Vinci - File without image, with sound

Hello,

I would like to try switching to Da Vinci. Until now, I've been working on Premiere and I've never had any issues with my files.
So when I import my footage into Da Vinci, there is only audio, no video. I've already tried adjusting the project settings to match, but it doesn't change anything.
My files were shot with a GH5 or GH5S (the problem is the same) in mp4, h264, UHD, 10bit, 25i/s.

However, with other types of files, like my HD exports, it works.
I thought I saw on a forum that the free version doesn't support all file types, but I haven't been able to find reliable information.

So, I would like to get an opinion before purchasing the paid version for nothing!

Thanks!

Hello, for my use, I film in avch264; I could choose the hevc codec to do 4K. You don't mention the Mov format, which might not be supported by Da Vinci; you should check on that.

Hello,

DVR 16 did not accept the 10 bits from the Lumix GH5, so maybe it's the same for version 17 or even version 18 beta: https://www.repaire.net/forums/discussions/sos-lire-mov-4k-10-bits-gh5.283656/
Here it is in English: https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=116308
You can access the list of supported codecs for version 16 from this last link; I could not find any document for later versions.

Apparently only the DaVinci Resolve Studio version (paid) would be able to support this type of files, but since I don't use it, I can't guarantee that. For me, before buying the paid version, look online for confirmation whether it's possible or not.

Try filming in 8 bits and test to see if DVR would accept your file if you want.

If you want to convert your files, the most suitable software seems to be Shutter Encoder: https://www.shutterencoder.com/fr/

Best regards
PS: DVR accepts files in MOV, test done with a small ProRes file.

Hello,
Thank you for the reply!
I just found the confirmation on their website actually: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/en/products/davinciresolve
At the bottom under "two great versions" they confirm that the free version goes up to 8 bits and the paid version 10 bits.
It's a shame, the whole point of Da Vinci is the grading, so shooting in 8 bits would still be a bit of a waste...

Have a nice day.
