Hello, I tried to plug in my brother's Wii U, but when I plugged the cable into the power strip (3 holes for 3 plugs), sparks came out of the middle hole. Out of fear, I immediately unplugged the Wii U cable, and I thought the power strip might be the cause. However, not long ago I dropped the Wii U, so I wondered if it could also be coming from the Wii U itself. What do you think? Thanks for your responses

Hello
There's a good chance the issue is with the Wii; if there was a problem with the power strip, the "sparking" phenomenon would have appeared on it, and if it were still plugged in without the Wii, it would trip the circuit breakers.

Thank you for your reply :)
However, the phenomenon appeared on the power strip, unless that's what you meant.

On the other hand, the phenomenon appeared on the power strip
In French, what does that mean?

I repeat, if the problem is with the power strip, it would trip the breakers even if nothing is plugged into it... However, it was when plugging in the Wii that the issue appeared... not before you plug it in.

Well, the problem appeared when plugging in the Wii... not before you connect it.

Exactly, do you think it's the cable that needs to be replaced or a connector, or maybe the Wii U (which I wouldn't want)?

Unless I'm mistaken, the Wii connects to electrical outlets via a power supply block
Like this one
Try plugging just the block into an outlet without having connected the Wii with the USB plug

The USB port, that is, the charger? As shown in the image? Because it is not the Wii U GamePad but indeed the Wii U, the console to which you can connect the sensor bar and the HDMI cable.

There aren't 36 USB ports...
The power block or charger has a plug to connect to an electrical outlet and a USB port to connect to the Wii.
So we try to connect the charger only with the electrical plug, not the other one.

Do you think it could come from the fact that I plugged a charging cable into a USB port of the Wii U (which is not official)? I also plugged in a USB stick.
Also, not long ago the Wii U displayed a message saying that to be able to play with it, the USB stick needed to be formatted (which I haven’t done).
I’ll check later if the connector is damaged or not.
Also, there was a sort of little pop when I plugged it in when the sparks appeared.

Stop talking about USB ports...
Try connecting the charger alone to an electrical outlet.

I forgot to mention that I wasn't talking about the charger but about this cable:
Were you talking about this cable or the charger?
Sorry if I misled you
I immediately unplugged the Wii U cable

I meant "unplugged"

Good news: my brother plugged in his Wii U and nothing happened. I'll keep you posted if any sparks reappear :)

If it works, that's what matters... There won't be any sparks.
