Hello, my computer is not working anymore. Last night, I turned it off while doing an update, but the update wasn't just a blue background with a spinning circle as usual; it was just a black background with pixelated text and a progress bar. Then today, instead of the thing that lets me enter my PIN or password, it says

"Your PIN is no longer available due to a change in security settings on this device. Click to reconfigure your PIN"

but when I click on it, it loads and then a Microsoft window opens and tells me that I need the internet to perform this operation, even though I am indeed connected to the internet. I have no other options except to turn off my computer or restart it, or change the internet...

      It connects between the box and the PC if it has an RJ45 port.

    so there are two techniques to get internet
    via Wi-Fi, which is what you currently have; the signal passes from the box to your PC wirelessly
    by cable
    this cable connects the box to your PC via a wired connection, thus directly, and that’s the big difference,
    the cable is called RJ45, named after the connector at each end of this cable
    it comes in various lengths, 3 m, 5 m, 10 m, 20 m, 100 m, etc. depending on the distance between the PC and the box, but maybe you can move one or the other to bring them closer, at least for a trial run
    a 5 m cable will cost you less than 10 euros

    then plug one end into one of the ports of the box until you hear a "click", then the other end into the network socket of the PC, there you go, it’s done, in some cases, you may need to restart the box.

        It doesn't give me internet access; when I unplug the red cable and plug it into the computer and the box, I have no internet at all, and I still can't configure my PIN.

    which red wire? where does this wire come from?
    we will start over from the beginning in order to guide you better
    please answer these 3 questions in order
    1) what is the distance between your pc and the box? (it doesn't have to be exact)
    2) what type of box is it?
    3) is your pc a desktop or a laptop? if it's a laptop, what is the brand and model (see on the sticker on the back from the manufacturer)
    with the box, there should have been an RJ45 cable (Ethernet cable or also wrongly called ADSL cable)
    but often this cable supplied with the box is very short.

      2) Orange (Livebox)

      3) It's a laptop (HP)



      What does an RJ45 cable look like? I saw several wires plugged into the box, there are labels indicating what the wires are for, like Telephone Fiber, etc. The only wire I managed to connect to the box and to the computer is the red one (fiber) but I had no internet after, and in the picture it said it was a red wire....

    ADSL is internet through the wires of a standard landline installation (known as copper pairs).
    Fiber, on the other hand, consists of special cables that connect to a specific box.
    In your case, you should be able to plug your RJ45 cable into the nearest wall socket and the other end into your PC, but you will always need an RJ cable of the necessary length between the PC and the wall socket.

    It's not certain that it will work, but for the price of an Ethernet cable (RJ45), it's worth a try.
    Otherwise, you should check in-store with a technician.
    Also, see if the fiber line is properly activated; having fiber installed doesn't mean it is activated, and it's not up to you to decide on the activation but Orange!

    That's good, I fixed my problem, I reset my computer... while keeping the data and I installed Windows 11.

      But I still tried for cables etc... but in fact after the reset I was finally able to configure the PIN but I'm still getting the message that there is no PIN anymore, it's weird... but now I have another problem...
