I tried to install my old HP F4280 printer on Windows 10. Driver unavailable.
The Windows printer test tells me: Driver type Type3 User mode //Driver version: 6.1.7600.16385

Hello.
HP hasn't developed a driver for Windows 10 and there's nothing anyone can do about it; try this driver, you never know, it might work https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/7981-driver-imprimante-hp-photosmart-f4280/

If the bazfile solution that I acknowledge doesn't work ► Try installing the printer via Add Printer ► Windows Update from the control panel ...and try with the HP Deskjet F 4200 Series driver ...(if it's a Deskjet and not Photosmart because it's not specified ??) and maybe Windows 10 will recognize this printer ...

Thank you, I wasn't very specific, my printer is an HP Deskjet f4280. I had indeed downloaded HP Deskjet f4280 series, here is what the test shows me: Port: USB001 - Processor hpzppw71 - windows x64 - Print driver properties - driver type: User-mode type - Driver version 6.1.7600.16385
If it helps C: /WINDOWSsystem32/DRIVERS/x64hpQ307w7.ini etc...

To install the printer, please follow the steps below in order
✅Open the Control Panel in Windows 10
✅Click on Devices and Printers
✅Click on Add a printer (2nd line at the top right)
✅Click on The printer that I want isn’t listed
✅Check the last small box at the bottom then▶️ Next Leave the top box checked ▶️ Next
✅Click on Windows Update ▶️ Let the machine search for compatible printers ...Note that this may take a few minutes depending on the load on the Microsoft server
✅In the window that opens ▶️ Scroll down the left column to find the brand HP
✅Highlight the printer HP Deskjet F4200 Series (on the right)
✅Next to start the printer installation and follow the installation process

I followed your procedure to the letter, the printer displayed Deskjet 4200 series by default, a notification told me - DESKJET IS CONFIGURED AND READY TO USE.

I suggest you uninstall this printer using Revo Uninstaller ► See here ...if you are not familiar with this tool, take the time to read about its usage on the same link
Launch Revo Uninstaller ► Uninstall by following the process to the end
Open the control panel ► Uninstall the HP Deskjet F4280
Restart the PC
Reinstall the printer as mentioned above using the control panel ► Add Printer ...as you've already done
See if the printer works

Otherwise, I found Windows 8 drivers, but I think they're valid for Windows 10 in my opinion.
