My computer no longer recognizes my Samsung J5 phone because the driver is missing. I found a driver on Samsung's website, but I can't install it on my computer. Does anyone have the answer to help me, as I have many family photos of my children and grandchildren that I would like to copy to my computer or the cloud, because my phone is getting old.
Thank you in advance.
Configuration: Windows / Opera 84.0.4316.31

re
I had a similar problem to yours with a friend's smartphone
A Wiko whose model I don't remember, with a Lenovo PC (running W8.1) whose model I also don't remember
I tested his Wiko on 2 of my PCs, and it worked right away (smartphone recognized on my PCs, access to the DCIM folder, etc...)
I "migrated" the PC to W10 for him, and he still can't connect his Wiko to the PC....
I don't know why it's not working

Hello
You can try this: https://developer.samsung.com/android-usb-driver
Don’t forget to unlock (home screen) your Samsung before connecting it.
Cheers

Good evening, thank you for your help and promptness, but the previous version of this driver was already installed - the computer told me - yet I still installed the latest version.
Unfortunately, that did not change anything. On the "devices and printers" panel, the laptop appears under Samsung Android, but not specified. Unknown device. Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the Registry) is incomplete or corrupted. (Code 19). Additionally, there are issues with detected PnP devices.
So, if you have any other ideas, I am open to suggestions... But in the meantime, thank you for trying; it was still worth doing...
THANK YOU !!!!! -
Hello
Test this for code 19: --> click here
Right-click on the default device in Device Manager --> Uninstall
Then, in the menu bar (at the top of the page), click on Action --> Scan for hardware changes
See what happens with the device
If it doesn't work, provide the device ID --> click here
PS: the first line is enough, post it via copy/paste in your response

Hello Billmaxime,
I’m sorry for the late response, but I have health issues (not COVID!), multiple disabilities and wheelchair, which kept me away from home for a few days.
First of all, thank you for your kind offer of help.
I have tried everything, downloaded the latest driver from Samsung, but I can't install it. It seems that some "junk" in the phone is blocking it. That being said, when I ask Windows to repair, it tells me there is a problem with the PnP devices.
I’m pasting what I found, but Windows tells me: "unknown device";
USB\VID_04E8&PID_6860&REV_0400&MS_COMP_MTP&SAMSUNG_Android
USB\VID_04E8&PID_6860&MS_COMP_MTP&SAMSUNG_Android
USB\SAMSUNG_MOBILE&MS_COMP_MTP&SAMSUNG_Android
USB\SAMSUNG_MOBILE&MI_00
USB\Vid_04E8&Pid_6860&MI_00
USB\Vid_04E8&Pid_6860&Class_06&SubClass_01&Prot_01
USB\SAMSUNG_MOBILE&Class_06&SubClass_01&Prot_01
Can you do anything about this???
Looking forward to hearing from you, with my thanks.-
Hello,
The installation of the driver for the PC does not pose any particular problem, but Samsung sometimes has the bad idea of using specific drivers.
I recently had to connect a J5 while I personally have another Samsung model, which forced me to use a new specific driver: samsung usb drivers for mobile phones 1.7.50
You can find it all over the Internet, provided it works on Windows 8, otherwise you will need to find an older version.
If the generic Samsung driver does not work, use the generic J5 driver with the installation procedure (trivial) illustrated here: https://allusbdrivers.com/samsung-galaxy-j5-usb-driver/, if it still does not work, look online for those specific to J5 2016 or 2017.
But above all, make sure to enable OEM debugging:
https://www.hardreset.info/fr/devices/samsung/samsung-galaxy-j5-pro/faq/faq/usb-debugging-samsung/
Nothing should prevent it from working under these conditions, except for a faulty USB cable or unexpected intervention from security software (temporarily disable for the occasion).

Hello
If your Samsung is "synchronized" with the cloud (Google Drive or OneDrive, depending on what you use, Gallery or Google Photos), you can find your photos using a browser on your PC. The page is either https://www.google.com/photos/about/ or https://onedrive.live.com/.
See you soon

Good evening Macintosh,
Unfortunately, my Samsung was not synced, neither to one nor the other. Honestly, I didn't even know that was possible... it's true that I'm quite a novice in this area...
But I find it kind of you to have tried to help me, and I sincerely thank you for that. Too bad for me. Maybe next time...
Sincerely
Have a good evening and thank you again. -

Good evening Billmaxime,
I wrote to you over an hour ago, but the text was lost when I tried to send it. So, I'll keep it short. I followed your instructions, but it didn't change anything.
My phone is being used as a modem and Windows determines that the device is up to date; but when I plug in the phone, nothing changes. I should mention that I did manage to get to the driver, but I couldn't find the ssudbus.inf folder. If it weren't for all these photos on this phone, I would have thrown it in the trash a long time ago...
Billmaxime, I sincerely thank you for all the work you put in to help me, unfortunately in vain. Now, I don’t know what to do...
Please accept my warmest thanks and my most cordial greetings.

Good evening Billmaxime,
I made it to the last line: ss_conn_usb_driver2.inf
but there is no OK and I couldn't go any further.
So, Windows didn't install it.. By clicking more, I even found Notepad, but that's where it stops.. And yet, I wasn't far off. Just for a missing OK....
I admire your perseverance and patience and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
And now.... what am I going to do... sang Gilbert Bécaud....
See you later!
