Hard drive at 100% activity time

Hello, I'm contacting you because I have a problem:

My hard drive is at 100% activity half the time, and I think the slowdowns on my PC come from that (during startup or while in use). I don't know what to do; are there any free solutions? I've heard about buying a new SSD and installing Windows on it – would that work? Having a PC that lags is quite annoying; in games, at startup, or even when doing nothing, each action takes time, even a simple search in my Windows applications or starting the Firefox browser. (I'm attaching an image; the quality isn't great, but it's the best photo I have that illustrates my problem). I should also mention that I reset my computer four days ago to try to solve this issue, but nothing has changed; I even feel like it's worse...

Thank you for your future help,
Sincerely, Théo.

    Hello,
I would even say, look in the resource monitor (at the bottom of the window in your photo) > disk tab > sort by total usage.

Hello, I'm replying a bit late because I was sick. But here I am again. So, there's a bit of everything and my hard drive spikes to 100% at times. But it never did this before, I think it's because I've had my hard drive for a long time (5 years). I'm considering buying a new one, particularly an SSD; would that reduce performance issues? Especially the lengthy boot time and the high response time.

Ah yes, it must be the hard drive that's wearing out. An SSD will fix these issues.

I am going to buy a 500 GB SSD. But how does the process work to reinstall everything on my SSD? Knowing that I will have my SSD as the primary drive and my old hard drive as a secondary drive. If I put my games on the secondary drive, which is slow, will my games have performance issues? Or will the SSD take over for the games stored on the HDD?

No, it's the hard drive, but without the system on it, it works more easily; the loading times will still be longer on the hard drive than on the SSD, but it will be better than it is now.

You can either clone your hard drive to the SSD or do a clean installation via USB key and reinstall what you want afterward (generally, games outside of Game Pass don’t need to be downloaded, just locate them or start the download, quit the launcher, put the game folders in, and relaunch the installation, that’s the case for Epic, for example).

I have about 10 minutes of startup time on my PC even though it has some "good" components, do you think the SSD will solve these problems? Also the navigation issues within my PC.
