Error 2: The specified file cannot be found

Hello, good evening, I am taking the liberty of opening this post regarding a problem that has arisen a few days ago.

Indeed, now, when I want to install any software, a message appears displaying the following error:

The installation wizard could not create the folder
"C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Temp\is-XXX.tmp".

Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

I have searched for twenty and still found nothing that could help me.

I have checked the permissions of my "Temp" folder and the permissions are correct.

I therefore need help and I am looking forward to a response.
Thank you.

Hello
Ah, you didn't mention that... Funny how that works!

Try emptying your "Temp" folders.
That is: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp and also C:\Windows\Temp

See you!

No worries...
Try moving the software to be installed to the root of the C: drive (in a simple folder), if it's just an EXE file... and try again.

Still nothing, I moved the software to "C:\Setup" (Setup that I just created) but nothing happens..

Always with "Run as Administrator"?
Without revealing any secrets, what is the software?

Affinity Designer, a software dedicated to graphic design.

And yes, I have indeed run it as an administrator.

But it works with 3/4 of the installation setups.

Hello
So open a command prompt as Admin (right-click, again...)
And type
sfc /scannow
, validate and wait, read the result carefully to see if there were any repairs...
Restart and test again.
See you+

If the answer helped you, a little thank you is super nice...

Good evening again, I just performed the operation and a message appeared:

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files, but was unable to fix some of them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at the following location:

windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE switch."

I’m not quite sure what this means.. So if you have a solution, I’m all ears.

Thank you

Hello
Yes, that's often the case.
To resolve this issue, you need to repair the system files using Microsoft’s Dism commands. There is a ready-made tool for this (Thanks to Kyhi) Image-Health (but the download link is broken), here is another personal download link French Image-Health.
Unzip it, preferably to the root, as it doesn't like too many sub/sub/subfolders.

Use option 1 and wait
Then option 2.
Finish with SFC again (option 7)

See you later

Very well, I just did that and here is what it shows:

For step one:

Ensure that the path to the temporary folder exists and that you have read/write permissions on the folder.

The DISM log file is located at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log
The specified file is not found.
0 file(s) copied.
Press any key to continue...

Alright. :-(
Try opening a command prompt as Admin
Enter
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

What happens?

It's fine, it was simply a mistake on my part, a software was blocking installations.

Have a nice day

And thank you Macintosh

Hello, I have exactly the same problem as you!
Would it be possible to know which software was blocking the installations?
Thank you!

Hello
Many software programs need full rights to install...

Try installing by right-clicking and choosing "Run as Administrator".

A+
