Hello,
I'm trying to back up my documents to an external drive and I'm receiving the following message: An unexpected error is preventing you from copying the file. If the problem persists, use the error code to search for help on this error.
Error 0x800700E1: The operation could not be completed because the file contains a virus or potentially unwanted software.
I started looking for solutions but without much success.
On http://winwiki.org/error-code-0x800700e1-backup/ I was advised to restore to a date prior to the backup attempt. Apparently, that wouldn't work because the document in question has been on my computer for ages!

It's the "Windows Defender" included in Windows 8.1 that causes problems. Just disable it:
Open the control panel.
Search for: "Windows Defender".
The "Windows Defender" link appears.
In the "Windows Defender" window, go to the "Settings" tab.
Uncheck "Turn on real-time protection".

Search for: "Windows Defender".
The "Windows Defender" link appears.
In the "Windows Defender" window, go to the "Settings" tab.
Uncheck "Turn on real-time protection".
