Hello,

For the past two days, both of my Gigaset AS470H handsets (same line) have been displaying the word "base" flashing on the screen.
It was my husband, sadly passed away last year, who set everything up because I have no knowledge about it. Neither in technology nor in computing.
I have a large-screen TV behind which is the SFR box, as well as two other bases, but I can't tell you if the Gigaset base is there and which one it is.... And it’s barely, by slightly moving the TV, that I can access this little world. Therefore, I can't recognize the phone base and see what's wrong. From afar, I see a vertical base with all the lights (also vertical) lit up. However, one of them keeps flashing very quickly. That might be normal...
I had changed the batteries for regular ones, but I read that rechargeable batteries were required and that it was strongly advised against using regular batteries, so I removed them. But I have no idea where my husband used to keep the rechargeable batteries (I might have thrown them away: this isn't the first time I've changed the batteries, as I've had this kind of issue before and changing the batteries solved the problem).
I'm left with two handsets without batteries (so nothing on the screen), which I had to remove from the bases because otherwise, the screens "flash" at times.
While waiting for a professional to come and sort this out, will the fact that the handsets have no batteries and are out of the base erase all my stored numbers? Does the base keep the numbers in memory, or will they be lost forever?
There you go, it was quite long, but since I know nothing about it, I preferred to go into detail.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello,
The handsets that display a flashing "Base" mean that they have lost radio contact with their base.

Possible causes include the base's power supply being faulty or a reconfiguration being needed.

You mentioned having 2 handsets; one of them should be on the base, and the other on a charger.

How to recognize the base... it has two cables:
a telephone cable
and a power supply cable...
Here is an image of your base depending on whether you have a model with an answering machine (multiple buttons on the base) or a model without a built-in answering machine (one button only)
Extract from the manual page 1 (top view) and 3 (bottom view)

The charger for the second handset only has a power supply cable

As for the batteries... without batteries, of course, the handsets cannot function
You will need to go buy some if you don't have any; they are sold in all supermarkets and specialty stores
You need rechargeable batteries (manual on page 18)
Technology: nickel-metal hydride (NiMH); size: AAA (Micro, HR03); voltage: 1.2 V; capacity: 450 - 1000 mAh

Place the batteries back in (pay attention to the polarities - generally, the batteries are placed head-to-tail) see manual on page 4
I will tell you what to do next if it still doesn't work

It has been a little while since I should have replied to you, but I have been dealing with very serious family problems. My father, who fortunately lives in the same building as me, fell ill and had to be hospitalized. He is 84 years old.
He has been hospitalized in 3 different hospitals. He is currently at Mondor, Créteil, where he keeps undergoing exams, as he has very few red blood cells. It turns out he has a mass on his pancreas and some holes in his liver are blocked. He is the only family member I have left, and I am even more attached to him.
So, that's why I didn't respond immediately to your reply, Baladur13. I just wasn't in the right frame of mind to open my PC.
But I still wanted to thank you, even if it's late. I had a professional come and replace the phone (I love it because he was prepared: he came with two handsets to install in place of mine; I'm not even sure it’s a really great model. A standard model but not very sought after at first glance; the display screen is in stick numbers, not pretty compared to what I had.) Now, I have an Alcatel F860 VOICE (one handset in the living room and another in the bedroom).
So far, I’m not convinced; I can’t even pick up the phone and have the call connect automatically without pressing the green button. I’m pretty disappointed. Well... The main thing is that it works.... Since I’m in a wheelchair with my father at the hospital, I need the phone more than ever...
A thousand apologies for replying so late and thank you for your kindness in responding and giving your advice.

Hello,
For the automatic disconnection
See if the procedure below, extracted from the F330 manual (more detailed), applies to the F860.

Hello,

Once again, I am very late in thanking you for writing.

My silence can be explained by the fact that my father's health has started to deteriorate rapidly until it finally took him on March 12th. For me, it has been tragic because even though I knew that one day or another, this would happen, it occurred so brutally and he was the only family member I had left. In 2020, my mother passed away in April from Alzheimer's disease and my husband in June (cancer due to asbestos, something swift as it was over in two months. Just like with my father). I had a brother who also died in 1986 at the age of 19 due to an asthma attack that suffocated him.

I wanted to, not complain, but explain that I now have no one around me to help. I have no family left (ours is fading away) and furthermore, I fell on the RER tracks in 2010 from which I emerged alive but with one leg less. I am constantly in a wheelchair and I have only the Internet to come to my aid if needed. I only know 2 couples in my building who are around 80 years old and I can't ask them for just anything. The others are tenants who change often and I hardly ever meet them, as I hardly ever go out due to my condition. I even need someone to help me get out of the building because I am unable to navigate the stairs with a wheelchair.

The only couple of friends I have (who live 50-70 km away from me) know nothing about computers. That is why I come to this site because I already had a professional come who charged me 80 Euros for touching two buttons on the TV remote and getting the system I couldn't restart up and running again. It was this person who, knowing that my Gigaset was acting up, came with an Alcatel F860 Voice phone with two handsets (since I had two handsets) and installed it for me, telling me it was better (????) Of course, I paid for the trip, the service, and... the phone! Well, of course! But I had no choice. With no one to advise me....

This phone works quite well. "Quite well," because I still haven't found certain things in the user guide, like redialing the last number called (instead of having to search each time in Directory by going one number at a time until finding the desired number).

My problem (here it comes) is that one day, I pressed the asterisk key at the bottom left of the bedroom handset and it cut off the ringer. The phone still rings in the living room and I can answer the call in the bedroom by pressing the green button, but the ringer no longer works. Furthermore, the "mute" icon at the bottom of the screen appears to indicate that the sound is off. I thought that by pressing the asterisk key again (as it worked with the Gigaset), the sound would reactivate, but no. I can't figure out how to do it. Honestly, the Gigaset AS470H model I had before was much simpler. At least for someone like me. The call and number blocking that take up about 50% of the manual do not interest me at all.

I look forward to your responses and thank you once again.

Thank you very much, Baladur13. I thought about it myself shortly after writing my request.

I said to myself "What if it's just because the ringtone volume is set to minimum? In that case, I just need to increase it to get sound?”

And that was it. After searching for months, I felt a bit silly there.

Such a simple thing, not thinking of it before. And, coincidentally, it was just after I asked the question in the forum!

I checked if what you suggested was the same as what I had done, and indeed it was.

Thank you again for your reply.
