Canon PIXMA MG3150 Printer and MacOS 12 Monterey

Hello,

I have been using a Canon PIXMA MG3150 multifunction printer since 2012 and I am completely satisfied with it, as it works perfectly for scanning and printing.

I have always used this printer in Wi-Fi mode on a personal network, with computers running Windows or Linux without any issues.

I recently acquired a MacBook Air M1 (2020) running MacOS12 Monterey (my first experience with a Mac...), and I wanted to add my printer to it.
I encountered some problems and am now stuck on the printing process.

1/ Initially, the printer was visible but could not be added due to a lack of drivers.
2/ On the canon.fr website, it is impossible to find drivers for this series of printers beyond macOS 10.x. It is clearly stated that it is no longer supported. It’s a shame for a product that works very well under Windows 7/8/10 and Linux.
3/ After some searching, I found another Canon site (Canada) that allows downloading a driver for macOS12, at this link:
https://canoncanadafr.custhelp.com/app/answers/answer_view/a_id/1011862/~/pilote-dimprimante-cups-mg3000-series-v.22.10.0.0-%28mac%29

4/ I was able to install this driver without any issues, and I was able to add the printer as expected.
5/ The scanning function is operational.
6/ However, the printing function does not work. The print spooler shows the progress status up to 100%, then disappears, without the printer triggering (no error, no LED flashing).
7/ I tested connecting the printer via a USB cable. The printer was added with the same driver, but still no printing possible, the spooler gets stuck on the document to be printed.

It is very unfortunate that drivers for these devices are no longer maintained. Even though it's been nearly 10 years, when a product works perfectly under other OS, I don't see why there would be a distinction under macOS.

Thank you for your help or feedback.

I tried something: downloading the driver for the MG3650 from canon.fr which - is - certified for macOS12.
I deleted my MG3150 printer and recreated it this time choosing the MG3600 driver
And there, bingo! Printing works very well and scanning too.

Don't you think Canon could have communicated about this? It's better for them to sell new equipment...

Anyway, to each their own, share the workaround.

I encountered a similar problem with my Canon MG8250 printer/scanner under Monterey.
Indeed, I could print without issues but scanning was impossible since the update to Monterey.
Additionally, the driver is not available for Monterey on the Canon support site (nothing since High Sierra).

While searching through aid communities, some people mentioned that the scanner could work without the Canon drivers via AirPrint. I therefore made several attempts to reinstall the Canon MG8250 in AirPrint mode but the scanner never worked (it only offered me the Bonjour mode).

I then tried to install the latest driver offered by Canon (the version for High Sierra from September 2021) and this allowed me to perform an installation in AirPrint mode (by choosing Bonjour Multifunction).

Since then, the scanner works perfectly just like before.

A bad point for Canon for not maintaining or helping to keep its devices longer and preferring to encourage people to change them even though they still work.

Great, it also works for a Pixma MP140, which is listed as obsolete on Canon's website.

Thank you!

Hello,

The cause of your issue does not come from Apple and its MacOS, but from Canon which has not updated its printer drivers for the new operating systems.
Canon may have considered that it would be too expensive to carry out this step.
We can also hope that Canon is currently working on this update and with a little patience, you will soon have a driver for your printer in the MacOS Monterey version which, I remind you, was released in October 2021.

On the Canadian page where you found a CUPS version for your printer, pay attention to this detail:
"... The problem that printing may not be performed depending on the setting of Ink Cartridge Settings has been rectified. [v.21.10.1.0] ..."
In other words:
"The issue where printing may not occur depending on the settings of the ink cartridge has been corrected. [v.21.10.1.0] "

So make sure you have this version v.21.10.1.0 just in case ...
If you have this version, then send a message via "Contact Us" on this Canadian site to explain in detail your issue with the specific printer model: they may find the cause and correct it.

Thank you for this clarification, I had understood that Canon had (or didn't want to) adapt its drivers.
The version I retrieved from the Canon Canada website is V22.

I will indeed contact this site to find out more.
