Microsoft wants to charge me for Open Office.

Hello,
I had to change my PC because the old one was fried. So new PC, now I find myself with Microsoft 365, the entire Office suite pre-installed. Except they are asking me for 70 euros a year to use it.... Logically, Office products are free.... ????????????

I tried to download a free version but Microsoft blocks it right away. Same for LibreOffice. It blocks everything and forces me to buy their crap pack!!!
(especially since I don't have much use for it.... I use Word to make association invoices, and Excel to keep track of accounts.... so basically I produce a maximum of 30 documents a year... This is really ridiculous)

Can I uninstall their crap??? It's really annoying....???? And I don’t want to give in to their pressure, there’s no way I’m paying for something that should be free... They are crazy....

Thanks for your help.

Configuration: Android / Chrome 94.0.4606.61

    Hello.
Microsoft Office is paid and has never been free; you are confusing it with LibreOffice, which is free, but LibreOffice is not a Microsoft product.

Hello and thank you for the quick response. ????
      Everything is pre-installed... from Microsoft.
      So yes, it's paid.

I tried to download LibreOffice, and the download went smoothly. But when I tried to run it, I received a notification from Microsoft stating that the LibreOffice software had been completely blocked by them.... Basically, if I don't buy their package... I can't do anything....
Is there a way to remove their package from the PC? I haven't seen anything that allows me to do that.... And then be able to install LibreOffice?

      I'm stuck everywhere.... I don't understand anything.

I'm starting to regret my old PC. ????????

    Hello

There seems to be a misunderstanding on your part...

"Open office" is not subordinate to Microsoft in any way and is free...

On the other hand, the various Microsoft "office" suites are paid (although I believe there are simplified "online" versions that are free)

Otherwise, in terms of office software, unless you have very specific requirements, there are the two big classics

    Open office => https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/bureautique/16611-openoffice/

    And the one I prefer:

    Libre office => https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/bureautique/13781-libreoffice/

    (Both are completely free)

    Hello,

Office products have never been free. I don't know where you got that information, but it is incorrect. The only free options were Office 2010 Starter and the online version only.
There's nothing stopping you from uninstalling the pre-installed Office suite.
As for LibreOffice, what might be blocking is the source from which you tried to download it. The official source is here https://fr.libreoffice.org/download/telecharger-libreoffice/?type=win-x86_64&version=7.2.1&lang=fr

    Best regards.

      Hello,

There are indeed free versions of Microsoft Office, but only on Android (or iOS), which is not very practical except for troubleshooting.

To complete the picture, Office is generously offered to students of certain schools (for example, Sciences Po Paris), and is charged at a bargain price to certain corporations (teachers).

Just like with Windows, online licenses can also be found at Cdiscount or wherever you want for less than €10, sometimes even €5, and, as with Windows, we don't always know what to think of them.

OK thanks, but how do I uninstall this damn pack? I've been trying since yesterday... I don't understand anything. I'm not a fool when it comes to computers, but this time....
I think I'm going to take the PC to a repair shop...

Open Office I downloaded for free on the old PC. That's for sure. I didn't pay anything... I can't see myself shelling out 70 bucks for the little administration I have to do with it...

Well, I'm going to dive back into it this morning, and before I pull my hair out, if I can't find a solution, it'll be the local repair guy. Otherwise, I'll just go buy an old manual invoice book and that's that.

(We recently had a problem with my parents' PC, with a printer installation.... By the way, 8 printers were pre-installed, God knows why they did that... We had to remove everything for the PC to recognize the printer..... I don't see the point of all that... Except to annoy people...)

      Thanks everyone for your feedback!
      Awesome forum!
      Have a great day

        Hello,

In principle, you just need to uninstall Microsoft Office via the control panel.

Microsoft Office is very sticky and some files will remain, but this will not have any impact.

If you want to be thorough, there is a specific Microsoft utility:

    Hello,
The Microsoft Office package is pre-installed. To completely uninstall it, you can use software called "revono" which can be found via Google search (make sure to choose revono.fr).
After launching, it will show the list of applications installed on your computer. Choose the application to remove and then select uninstall from the menu. Do not create a restore point before uninstalling. Finally, perform a full scan and delete everything that is suggested.
I use this software for all program uninstalls because it also cleans the registry, which is important for proper cleaning.
