Hello,
I hope I'm in the right category for my question,
I recently bought a house that has network sockets in every room, which connect to a network panel above the electrical panel. Among the elements in this network panel, there is a piece of equipment that I cannot identify.
It is a large Schneider Electric box (the gray box in the photo), on one side of this box I have Ethernet cables coming from a switch (the black box) to which my modem is connected (this switch allows sharing my modem's internet connection with all the sockets) and on the other side of this box, the cables go to the different rooms of the house (but through a cable that is not an Ethernet cable).
On the wall sockets, there are 3 sockets, 1 for phone and 2 for network. I think this box allows selecting whether to send network or phone to the sockets (there is a button for each wire on the box that allows sending either one or the other (or both?)).
It turns out that both the switch and the mystery box are dead, and I'm wondering if there is a simpler alternative. I only use the network part and not the phone part.
If you have any information, I'd appreciate it :)

Hello,
You say:
1) On the wall sockets, there are 3 sockets, 1 phone and 2 networks.
Can you send us a photo of these sockets?
2) network sockets in all rooms
How many rooms with sockets?
On the Schneider box, we can see 5 cables.
Are they connected in the box with male RJ45 sockets?
Does this box also have a television-style cable with an F connector (screw-on) entry or exit?
No reference on this Schneider box?
We also see a black AIRWAY box between the switch and the Schneider box. What is it?
What is the reference?
Are the gray and black cables going to the left of your image a box?

It's very difficult to catch a black cat in a dark room.
Especially when it’s not there...

I found the Schneider module

Hi,
it's definitely an automatic Alvidis switch, if it no longer works, you need to remove it and replace it with a patch panel :-(
It really wasn't a good idea these automatic patchings:
Clearly, there's a lack of flexibility and reliability....
Afterwards,
what really worries me are your wall sockets, I'm afraid they may have split the pairs, which would limit your ethernet speed to 100Mbit/s.
These old methods were really very limiting, it would be better to dismantle all that and rewire with a proper traditional patching.
The fairway must be the power supply of the Alvidis, or the switch, both need to be powered,
and I guess the switch is only a 10/100, not gigabit at all, which wouldn't be useful for this installation.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply!
I took apart a socket to see what was inside, and I took a photo:
For now, I'm on ADSL, so that's fine for me, but installation of the fiber is underway and should arrive in the coming weeks (1 to 2 months according to Orange). So I'll need to think about a setup compatible with fiber speeds.

These wall sockets must be linked to the same type of auto patch panel from Legrand, the auto optimum
See page 9 for the connectors and the top ....
This is very limiting today.
For fiber, all of this needs to go, but if the Alvidis doesn't work, you can't distribute via Ethernet, not even 100 today :-(

Ok...
I’ll let Brupala take over, he’s much more knowledgeable than I am in this area.
Your installation seems very sophisticated but probably quite unnecessary for fiber.
As Brupala suggests, if the switch was also supplied by Schneider, it’s a 10/100Mbps.
So, apparently, the switch https://www.se.com/fr/fr/product/VDIR523001/lexcom-home---switch-informatique---10-100mbps---8-ports/

So, if I understood correctly, since I don't need to manage the TV and the phone, the best thing for me is to get rid of this box, replace the white cables with regular Ethernet cables, and get a switch that handles gigabits?
Or I can keep these cables but I need something that allows me to switch from Ethernet to the white cable?
Or I can keep these cables but I need something that allows me to switch from Ethernet to the white cable?
Can you take a picture of these connections?
Sure, no problem, here is the photo:
By the way, we can see that it is a phone jack, a network jack, and a TV jack, and not two network jacks. This answers the question about the white TV cable in the top left corner of the gray box.
How many rooms have outlets?
On the Schneider box, we can see 5 cables.
Indeed, there are 5 rooms and therefore 5 outlets of this type.
Are they connected in the box with male RJ45 jacks?
I don't know, the wires above (the white ones) are connected inside the box (see photo) it looks like there is no connector, they are simply secured inside.
This box also has a TV-style cable with an F connector (screw-on) is it input or output?
I don't know, I would say it's a cable that came from a TV antenna but no longer exists.
No reference on this Schneider box?
No, nothing on the front or sides, I couldn't manage to unscrew it from its support so I don't know about the back.
We also see a black AIRWAY box between the switch and the Schneider box. What is that?
What is the reference?
The black box behind is a laptop charger-style box, it's this charger that powers the switch (in black) and the gray box.
By the way, I think it's this charger that is dead since both devices no longer turn on. But before I change it, I'm trying to understand what the gray box does to see if I can simplify the setup (since I don't use the TV and phone jacks).
Are the gray and black cables going to the left of your image for a box?
Indeed, the gray one is the cable coming from my DTI socket going to the box and the black cable is the Ethernet cable coming from my box to the switch.
I haven't found anything online for now.
Edit: the missing images have returned, so there are 3 RJ45.
A wiring view at the back of these sockets would be a plus...
https://www.materielelectrique.com/content/fichiers_produits/SCHVDIR590001.pdf
So it is part of the cabinet, more precisely it's the "1 central unit with 8 ports (Telephone, Data, and TV)" from there I should be able to find the exact name of the box and an alternative :)
Thank you very much for your help and quick responses!
