SCART to HDMI Converter = Blue Screen on TV Solved

I bought a SCART to HDMI converter to connect my Daewoo SV 831S VCR to my new 4K Sony TV.
When I play the VCR, a very poor-quality image appears for 2 seconds and then the screen goes blue.
The sound is fine

I tested by swapping with another SCART HDMI cable and another TV.
Same observation.

I have the impression that the VCR is sending a SECAM signal and that the TV is receiving PAL.
That's what appears at the top of the blue screen.
Could you help me understand and find a solution?

this topic comes up periodically and the web is full of it... And it's often the same story.

It’s likely that your converter cable is the cause... 9 out of 10 don’t work... and here, you don’t mention what kind and model of cable you’re using, brand, model, seller.

-- We should first verify if the TV-VHS connection works with a simple SCART cable..
I also think that the 4K Sony is not a match made in heaven with your VHS player which probably outputs images in 720p...

-- How old are these videos..? The quality may have deteriorated over time.. in addition.

Thank you for your response and sorry for my seemingly recurring question.
In any case, I had previously searched the forums without finding an answer.

The TV-VCR connection cannot work with a simple SCART cable because there is no SCART socket on the Sony TV purchased in April.

I tested with 2 different SCART cables and 2 different HDMI cables.

I also tested on the HDMI port of my son's 10-year-old LG TV, and it doesn't work either.

However, my son's LG TV has a SCART socket, and I connected the VCR directly, and the picture and sound are perfect.
So it is not an issue with an old VHS tape whose tape might be degraded.

The objective is not to watch the tapes in my son's room but to find a technical solution on the family TV.

Alright, it's already very good to know that the tape is readable on a compatible TV from that era... In my opinion, this test is necessary before embarking on anything else...

In my opinion, you didn't make the right choice at the start,
1° it doesn't support SECAM
2° It only converts old TV image formats

3° HDMI 1.3 compatibility was before 2009... Your TV must be HDMI 2.1..?

In short, everything that doesn't work with a contemporary 4K TV... Hardly used anyway.

It would be useful to know the model of this TV...?? It may have RCA inputs, red, white, yellow, on the back, which could be connected to a SCART to RCA adapter (VCR to TV) or provide a clear and readable photo of the back panel of the TV.

I tested the converter on my son's TV, which has HDMI + SCART.
The TV is at least 10 years old, and on its HDMI, the converter behaves exactly the same as on mine from 2021.

The model of my TV is Sony KD55-XH9505

Unfortunately, I think there is no RCA input. I had a SCART to RCA adapter available.

I think if it's not me who's messing up, then the converter is faulty.
I need to find another model, but it's not easy...

I have female RCA connectors on the VCR.
So it's the second model that should work.

These two cables will work, but be careful, your RCA connectors on the VCR, if they are on the front, are inputs and not outputs.
Connect to a SCART with this:

Switched to OUTPUT

Indeed, I have 3 RCA inputs on the front.
I suspected there was something off with ????
At the back, I only have 2 red and white RCA... so unique audio output, which means KO
I will follow your advice and use a SCART to RCA adapter like the one you mentioned.

I have one like this in my cable stash. Do you think it will do the trick?

Look closely at the description, they are not all wired the same way... It's not always the same cable that goes to the same ring of the jack... so there is a risk of error...

We can also say that not all SCART connectors are necessarily connected to each of their terminals... and there must be some poor contacts in there, over time.
