Hello, I downloaded my latest photos from my Samsung to my computer, they are on the computer but I cannot open them. I tried with "Firefox", with "Adobe Reader", with "Photos Picasa", and with "Microsoft Store", but nothing works, they won't open. What's weird is that the old ones open! Thank you for giving me a solution.

Hello, I know it's not complicated, and I have the default photo app, I even repaired it, nothing, reset it, nothing, that's why I tried all the others! If the "photo" app worked, I wouldn't be asking for help! Thank you.
To be more precise, when I click on the photo to open it, a window opens with the photo number written at the bottom: the HEVC video extension (though it is not a video but a photo) is required to display this file - download and install now - Microsoft Store. I attempt to install it and it tells me: photos try to open Microsoft Store. Once opened, I am in the Microsoft Store and it requires payment to install a photo site! I think it is the Microsoft Store that is blocking it, and since we cannot uninstall Microsoft Store, I am stuck!
I went online, it's to read encoded videos, but they are not videos, they are photos, that's what I don't understand!
If it's really a .hevc file, it opens with WMP or MPC64

apparently, it's all about music, movies, videos! I just want to be able to open and view my photos! I don't understand why they ask for an extension just for photos, it's incomprehensible!
Good evening,
Are the photos still on the smartphone?
1) If so, are they visible?
2) If so, transfer them again to the computer.

Yes, they are still on my smartphone and I downloaded them three times! I had them in triplicate on my computer!
So don't delete them until the problem is resolved.
Try changing your download method: Use the Photos app on the computer.

The most ironic thing in history is that I have two short videos of two minutes each, and they open fine and I can watch them!
I don't plan to delete them, I wanted them on my computer, they're there but remain closed! What a shame!
The others are: JPG File (.JPG) and why JPGs open and not the others! What do I do to convert them to JPG?
HEIC files are not opened directly by Windows 10. You need to install an extension.
Go here and download the extension.
After installing it, Photos should open HEIC files.
You should configure the iPhone to save in JPG format.

I'm looking at this on my phone, but apparently, I can't upload anything to the smartphone. In the apps, then the camera, there's nothing about changing the file!
Hello, in the format and advanced options, there are only: pop-up display, direct sharing, reduce animations, movements and gestures, one-handed mode, game launcher, double messaging, send SOS messages, and that's it, no HEIF photos. I downloaded iMazing on my computer to convert HEIC files to JPG but I'm struggling at the moment. In Photos, I go to properties and set iMazing, and it asks me to connect my phone. iMazing doesn't recognize it and keeps asking me to download the software. It's so frustrating! It seems simple when they explain it online, but I must not be good at it! Thanks anyway.
ok, I feel like I'm taking a photo, then the wheel: photos (HEIF), video resolution, high-performance video, HDR, photos as preview, grid, location tags, shooting modes, quick launch, reset settings, in HEIF photos there's just the yes or no button, it's set to yes; as for my iMazing installation, I get a window with a note in English that I translated: iMazing requires the latest Apple drivers (even though I don't have Apple) please reinstall iMazing, would you like iMazing to install Apple drivers for your computer? your computer may stay on; I check yes so that iMazing reinstalls and downloads the drivers, once done, it goes back to the window that tells me the same thing again! I'm going in circles!
As I understood, on smartphones, photos are in HEIC format because they take up less space, and it's better to change the format from the computer. For this, there are several apps, and iMazing is said to be the best. Apparently, it's easy to download, it's in my downloads, but when I go to photos and choose, I select iMazing, and it tells me that the download is not complete???
Forget it, I deleted iMazing which couldn't be installed, I installed the HEVC video extension, it's paid (0.99 euros) but it works! Thanks again for your patience, best regards.
I arrive a little late but with 2 solutions:
1) On the computer, you can open HEIF files with XnViewMP, a free photo management software: downloadable here: https://www.xnview.com/fr/xnviewmp/
2) You can do an online conversion to a jpg file here: https://convertio.co/fr/heic-jpg/
It works well.
Now if you want the smartphone to save in jpg, you have the solution in your message <14>:
Set the button to no.
Have a good day!

Thank you, I spent the morning on it, I should have waited for your responses but I have very little patience. But well, 0.99 euros for a download, that’s fine! I guess I need to remove the HEIF on my phone, but on social media, they advise against it because in HEIF it takes up less space. I will still install the software you recommended, you never know. The photos are visible but they are a smaller format than my other photos! Honestly, technology is beautiful, but sometimes I miss printed photos! Thanks again.
