Internet in a basement

Hello, I rent a cellar where I set up a studio with a booth, etc. We have finished the work and we have all the equipment. But I don’t have internet, the network is completely cut and there is no fiber connectivity. I’m looking for a way to get internet: I was thinking of buying a 4G box, but will that work?
If you have any solutions please let me know, I’m all ears.

Hello. If you have no network in the basement, the 4G box won’t work either since it needs a network. The advantage of some 4G boxes is that you can attach external antennas, so the box can be in the basement but the antennas must be outside, connected with one or two cables depending on the hardware chosen.

Do you have a wired telephone line?

But you say you have a studio, so you have electricity. Where does that electricity come from, because PLC can work depending on the origin of that electricity.

Otherwise, a long Ethernet cable in RJ45 plugged into a box not too far away.

Anyway, there are solutions but we don’t know your current installations, so it’s difficult to answer precisely.

    Hi,
an outdoor 4G box, preferably an outdoor model, an Ethernet cable (it can be up to 100m) and a switch at the end to distribute the network.

    and … Voila Voilou Voila!

Not seeing what a 4G box outdoors might be like, I would be more inclined to put the 4G box indoors because I don't know of a waterproof and anti-theft model, unless you add external antennas which themselves are waterproof. But anyway.

Otherwise there is also the long-distance wifi bridge. Example https://www.antennes-wifi.com/pont-wifi/pont-wifi-400-metres.html
    or
    https://www.adomotique.com/connexion-internet-distante/44-pont-wifi-500m.html
    and of course cheaper :

    et

But this wifi bridge implies there is a DSL or fiber box within range of the basement roughly far away (5 to 6 km is already a good operating radius) but in any case, the antennas will need to be placed outside. (This is the WiMax method, used by some municipalities but with the arrival of fiber, this method is gradually disappearing).

    Since you don’t know Dhyd,
learn that an outdoor 4G router can look like this.
    or even like this

Okay, I know what it is and I knew about it, but I didn’t know the term “outdoor” was applied to it, because for me that term implies standalone and watertight. I would have rather used the terms all-in-one and waterproof.

But given the selling price of this device at over €450, that makes the solution expensive compared to a Huawei B525 box at €68.79 https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/100500162388236236.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.54712c49VPnPYA&algo_pvid=46db5944-d7b4-4e29-9edc-dfb8932cdf6b&algo_exp_id=46db5944-d7b4-4e29-9edc-dfb8932cdf6b-3 and an external 4G antenna at €16.53 https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/33013452582.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.54712c49VPnPYA&algo_pvid=46db5944-d7b4-4e29-9edc-dfb8932cdf6b&algo_exp_id=46db5944-d7b4-4e29-9edc-dfb8932cdf6b-18.

And moreover, with this Huawei B525 box, you can connect a phone to enjoy telephone service. I don’t know if with the Zyxel you can have telephony; I’ll look in the manual to see if I find anything.

We are far from the €450 outdoor price tag of your solution, but what’s certain is that these two solutions will work without issue; it’s just a question of financial investment.

An indoor product with an external antenna introduces a lot of losses in the antenna cable if it has to run 20 or 30m.
The outdoor box has its antenna integrated or an external one very close and it is connected by Ethernet and POE, so with no losses in the cable.
Admittedly we are more in a professional range, but it is the way to go for a minimum of reliability.

Indeed, there are signal losses over long lengths of wire, but I don’t think we’re obliged to run 30 meters of cable from a basement to get a 4G signal outside, except of course if that basement is on the 4th basement level.
Knowing that with only 5 meters of cable, you rise more than 2 floors.

Follow-up question about your nickname "brupala": I noticed there was also a "burpala" claiming to be a tester of "brupala" who posts messages.
Is it you in both cases or someone else?
