poor reception Astra 19.2

Question

Hello,
I'm having reception problems with the Astra 19.2 satellite using an 80 cm dish and a Humax 5000 decoder. This mainly concerns German channels (Eurosport). It only happens at certain times of the day and depending on the weather.
I don't know what the solution is, what about you? Thank you for your responses.

Hello,
Satellites are indeed geostationary but can move and shift very slightly in orbit, and if your dish is not perfectly aimed, with the correct cross-polarization adjustment made, this can cause this kind of inconvenience.
It’s a moment when the satellite deviates a little from its position to then come back to where it was...

A geostationary position is a cube of 150 km on each side within which the satellite can wander... and several factors can divert the satellite from its path, lunar attraction, solar attraction... varying according to the time of day or season...

I’d like to add for your information that some satellites at the end of their life, when they no longer have fuel to correct their position but still have operational batteries, are placed in "inclined orbit." They can still be useful for certain applications but require almost constant monitoring.

The solution is to correctly realign your satellite dish, and I should add that there isn't just one Astra but four that are not exactly at 19.2°:
Astra 1N at 19.19°E
Astra 1M at 19.17°E
Astra 1L at 19.16°E
Astra 1KR at 19.15°E

For the orientation of the dish, use this site:

-Enter your full address on the left
-Choose 19.2° East (Astra) from the list on the right
-Click on “Search!” next to your address,
-Zoom in on the map using the + button to clearly locate your house
-Place the target at the location of your dish by dragging and using a landmark (tree, house) for orientation, first in direction then in elevation.
On the bottom right of the map, you have the elevation, azimuth, and rotation direction in degrees of the LNB in its holder (polarization adjustment), last line "LNB Skew" is very important.
Also use the signal bars on the decoder by communicating with someone in front of the screen by phone to fine-tune the adjustment, which should generally be done with a satellite finder.

Hello.
The ideal would be to have a larger dish.
A 120 cm one costs €90 on many sites.
Of course, even with a 120 cm compared to an 80 cm, proper aiming remains the most important.
Myself, lately with all these weather episodes of rain, storms, and wind, I have reception issues with my satellite antennas.

Hello  Thank you for your advice. I was also wondering if living in a bowl-shaped area could have an impact, with possible obstacles (trees, for example) affecting the reception. What do you think?
