My motherboard doesn't detect my new SSD.

Hello everyone,

I recently bought the Samsung 970 EVO SSD, an NVMe M.2.
But upon connecting it, neither Windows (disk management) nor my motherboard detects it.
My motherboard is a Gigabyte Z370P D3, and I have connected the SSD to the m2p_32g slot.

I downloaded the driver from the Samsung website, but oddly the .exe only works from my HDD; when I try to run it from my SATA, nothing happens. Running it from the HDD displays a message saying that the Samsung is not connected to my PC.

There is nothing connected to the SATA3 0 slot (I understood that I can't have something in this slot and in the m2p simultaneously), I have a SATA SSD with Windows on it and an HDD on two other slots.

I looked into a BIOS update for my motherboard, but I don't see anything regarding NVMe in this list. https://www.gigabyte.com/fr/Motherboard/Z370P-D3-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios

Do you have any suggestions on what to try?

Note. I don't really like to use all types of Evo memory, because there's often a lack of compatibility, even for an SD memory card for a smartphone.
For you, you need to check the motherboard manual to see which M2 versions it accepts, then look for the version of your M2.
Unplug all your disks and CD drives, just leave the M2 to see if it appears in the BIOS.

There are no specific drivers for SSDs from Samsung. Did you want to clone your OS? If so, you need to download Data Migration, install it, and launch it.

check the BIOS settings to see if there's a parameter that enables or disables the M.2 port
and just so you know, Samsung does provide a driver for NVMe

Voila what type of M2 your motherboard supports. It supports 4 types.
Type 2242/2260/2280/22110
Your SSD 970 EVO is:
M.2 (2280), so it should be compatible.
Interface: PCIe Gen 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.3; your motherboard does not specify if it supports NVMe.

Check in your BIOS if it can be enabled or disabled for M2.
The EVOs are often not compatible.

My BIOS is indeed in UEFI, in offboard SATA it says that there is no PCIe SSD connected, the same in NVMe configuration.

And the SSD is functional, I was able to make it work on another machine.

For the BIOS update, yes, it's efiflash that Windows 10 doesn't want to launch, I'm trying with a less recent version.
Edit: it doesn't work either, it doesn't want to launch efiflash :'(

I specify that I am very familiar with this kind of problem. There are people who don’t believe me.
The Samsung components that are labeled EVO, especially the newly released ones, are not 100% compatible with all hardware on the market. It’s a one in two chance that it will work or not.
The same SSD without the EVO label would have worked.
Another example, you buy the same model of motherboard, but the reference just above (which is better), and then the EVO SSD may work.
Or wait for an update that includes your EVO SSD.
Many customers have returned EVO micro SD cards or SSDs.
The EVO micro SD cards will be more compatible with Samsung smartphones.

Hello,

an M.2 SSD must be activated through "Disk Management," so right-click on Start/Disk Management and right-click on your SSD, which should be listed as "Basic Disk." Return to Explorer where the SSD should be present.
