Find identity behind username

Hello,
A user on a forum revealed my name while I was using an anonymous account, with a username that is not used anywhere else... How is that possible??

    Impossible to respond without being in their shoes, there are several ways to achieve this, but most probably through various cross-references.

      No, anonymity does not exist. Your ISP, for example, can know everything you do.

      We can get close to good anonymity, but it requires time, specialized knowledge, and constant paranoia.

      Whether the ISP knows it is one thing, but the fact that the first random forum user can find an identity behind a pseudonym makes me question the usefulness of the latter.
