Hello everyone,
I have an HP Officejet Pro 6970 printer that I am experiencing poor print quality issues with. It's been just under two years, and according to the printer's statistics, I’ve printed just under 800 pages since I bought it. I have almost exclusively used "compatible" cartridges.
There are 4 cartridges, and they are removable (CMYK). However, the print head is fixed.
I started to "lose" a color last summer. By removing the yellow cartridge, I noticed that the ink was green at the nozzle. I thought the ink was of poor quality and had turned green. I changed the cartridge, but the problem persisted.
I then assumed the print head was clogged. I bought a cleaning kit... That solved the problem for a few hours, and then the print quality became unsatisfactory again.
I completely disassembled the printer to understand the origin of the problem. I then noticed that the small rubber scraper intended to clean the head was loaded with quite thick ink, so I thought that instead of cleaning the head, it was just making it dirtier. I cleaned every trace of ink in the printer... I disassembled the head, let it soak in the cleaning solution, injected the solution into the nozzles... I reassembled, tested, and the print was perfect... I let it rest for a few hours, and it happened again, it went wrong.
I re-dismantled the head, cleaned it, and it worked perfectly. But it always messes up in the end. (one of the colors bleeds into the others).
To give you an idea of the problem I’m facing, I printed 3 diagnostic sheets from the printer at several hours' intervals. Between each print, I do not touch the printer and do not print anything else. The first sheet was printed after a manual cleaning of the head: the quality was perfect. You can see that the quality degrades over time.

I then deduced that the print head was dead. So I changed it.
After taking the time to prime the new head (I had a bit of trouble...), the print quality was good once, twice... I let it rest... and there it was again, like last time, after a while it completely failed.
I’m at my wit's end. I'm not even sure that if I buy a pack of original cartridges it will work again.
What can I consider?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello,
For my part, there's only one solution: buy the original cartridges...
Still wait for other responses.
We have practically the same printer as you but older, it's been at least 6 years and we've never had any issues with the original cartridges.
Best regards
